    Hey,

My brother in law owns a Nikon D80 and wanted to take photos tonight as my sister went into labour (just to have it ready for when the baby comes!) and when he tried to do so it wont take. The way he described it to me was that when he clicks the button it doesnt take and "F---" comes up on the screen.

Any ideas? All help, greately appreciated!

(Sorry if its the wrong forum to :p)

get the lens off the camera, clean all contacts in camera and lens and put it back again
remove the battery for a while and put it back again
try with a different memory (or format the memory on the camera and/or on a computer)

if the lens has an aperture ring, ensure is at its minimum aperture (f22 usually) and locked

Yes I have a d80, I think it might be the aperture ring. I'll have a look at mine tonight and see what happens when the aperture ring isn't in the right position

I had a similar issue with D50 and a Sigma lens - aperture ring was not at F/22. Camera would not shoot until it was set to F/22.

defiantly sounds like hes on a non aperture mode and without the lens aperture on max. (usually 22 and its in orange a lot of the time)

And make sure he slides the aperture lock into place too
