    Hi
    Does anyone know if it is possible to buy physical gold and silver in Ireland?
    What I would buy would be gold coins or small bars.
    In the US you can walk into your dealer and buy the stuff like a sack of spuds.
    I have some with the Perth Mint but I would like some physical as well.
    Any info would be great. What about pawnbrokers?

    www.gold.ie , I have used them in the past are they are a good outfit, minimum purchase is 10oz from memory. They are based in Fitzwilliam square in Dublin.

    Thanks Silverharp.
    I bought some PM's through that company. I was looking more for a dealer who would sell me some PM's in smaller amounts.

    i think there is an antique shop in the powerscourt centre that sells coins, I was meaning to go in and check to see their premiums, otherwise there is a coin show in the RDS maybe Oct-nov time, else check the numesmatic society , they maybe able to give you names of private dealers however from the last rds show the premiums for most dealers seemed to be about 10% which seemed high.

    @capailldubh

    It is the Perth Mint themselves that decide on the min investment, which is 10k USD (subsequent investments are 5k USD min), so you wont be able to find another source for PMCs with a lower minimum.

    Full disclosure: I work for www.gold.ie :)

    Sorry for the confusion lads. By PM's I meant Precious Metals not Perth Mint (Certs)
    I will give the coin dealers a try.

    Do I have to pay VAT on a purchase of gold ingots or coins?
    Is there any other aplicable taxes like CGT?

    There is a thread here that answers your question, basically "there is no VAT, stamp duty or duty on investment grade gold"

    however there is CGT

    Ed, I am led to believe that there are exemptions in UK law from CGT for Coin of the Realm, do any such exemptions exist for irish coinage?
