you would think so, i would advice that you always get the retailer, foreign or domestic, to chrono and a written confirmation that the item is bellow 1j.

Agree with the first part about checking things, but theres no way I'd give a written guarantee a gun is shooting at a certain energy - Its too easy for the end user to upgrade it, and the energy could change over time anyway due to hop-up wearing in, the air seals becoming weaker, etc, etc.

I think the key piece of advice here is to know the muzzle velocity of what you're importing before you press buy.

why not righten note to say that the aeg when it is sold was firing at 1j? i got a big pile or invoices from wgc/airsoftglobal/airsoft4war, saying that when they shipped it to me it was <1j, why is that so hard hear?

coz if the AEG was modified later on to over the legal limit the person could use the piece of paper as an excuse and say, "well i got this off such and such, i didnt mess with it"., as it is if you get a hot one from an irish retailer they take the gun back and fix the fault so having a cert would be a bit pointless.,

    1) it should not be hot in teh first place coming from a Irtish retailer

    2) the letter is just to say that when it is 'sold' that the item is at that power

    3) well look at it the other way, i could buy a sub 1j aeg upgrade it above 1j and then say that how i brought it.....works both ways

all i say is i;ve got this confirmation from retailers in hk us and uk with no problems

I know it sounds like a good idea, but when you think about it, its meaningless for an Irish retailer to give a written guarantee. Legally, its probably meaningless for a foreign retailer to give written confirmation of its power level too - its not a legal document, and any customs officer who feels like sending a gun off to be chronoed will most likely ignore it.

Even if it was treated as a legal document, it only states that the gun was firing at or below 1 joule when it was shipped to you - the officer knows you won't have had it in your possession, so it couldn't have been modified by you. That all changes when you get one from an Irish retailer - there's nothing to stop a customer altering a gun, then claiming it was like that when they got it, and pointing to the retailer's guarantee and making accusations.

so an item is advertised on a site as below 1j its the legal limit in the country....and no retailer will confirm that the items they sell are at this level....humm explains the problems we had at are last skirmish then, if its not a legal document then whats the problem with people asking for it and people providing it?

there nothing stopping a buyer doing that at the moment buying an aeg and upgrading and then saying it how they got it from the shop, with say a checking system at least you could say well i chrono everything that goes out.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but I'd be of the opinion the pieces of paper you have had nothing to do with the gun making it through customs.

If the package said the power level was over 100 m/s, and the customs officer noticed, I reckon it would have been sent off to be chronoed anyway.
The only safety the paper would give you, is that in the event of it being over the limit, it *might* indemnify you from any legal consequences with the Irish authorities.

its all new and puitting things in writing is never a good idea

the problem is exactly that, its not a legal document., so whats the point in having it? if the box says its under 1J and it turns out to be over 1J then the gun is faulty and will be brought in line with the law.,
its like buying a radio in argos, they cant test them all before ya buy it and theres always gonna be some that are faulty.,

I meant its not a legal import/export document for customs clearance purposes, like a SAD Entry form would be.

i never said the piece of paper had anything to do with customs it was a confirmation to me as the buyer, this has nothing to do with customs this was my advice to a person looking at some airsoft shops, i;ve come across a number of people who have been sold >1j item from a number of locations foreign and domestic. Once again i will say this is between and retailer and customer nothing at all to do with customs don;t know where that came from as i never mentioned customs.

Yeah, I know...I was making the point though that while it might have some value for an importer to have a power guarantee to help get it through, its not really worth anything. I also wasnt looking for an argument, and this has gone way off topic :)

this whole thread is off topic

heyjay14 don't be alarmed its just that tghey haven't shot at one another for a whole week

    i personally recomend www.eirsoft.ie, www.airsofteire.com, and
    www.irishairsoftsupplies.ie

and thats becaues i've bought off tyem all and been happy with the results

there is no reason i have never used www.mainirishairsoft.com save that i ran out of money

i would not hesitate to use them either

the problem with using sites outside ireland is that the items look very similar to guns and so could be held for ages while an expert plays with them with his mates checks them out

Agree topic went way off, i for one do not have a problem with recommending both irish and hk retailers if there is an item you want from hk go for it, there is a lot of scare mongering about buying abroad, but what ever you do get a confirmation that the item any retailer is shipping you is <1j if they can not do this and confirm that they have tested it when you have to ask ourself why not (this is a recommendation from a customer to customer for any transaction, this is not for the retailer to say hear why they can not)

personal view 2 cents, signing off from the thread
