Are you talking fixed weight ones? if not then argos have them

Elvery's would be my guess. Some of their staff even have a smidgen of a clue about what they're talking about.

I go for the york cast iron weights in argos.

    http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=30001&partNumber=3008250

they're cheap enough, there's argos' everywhere and it's easy enough to nip in and get more discs when you need them

Argos also do a 20kg dumbbell set too, I would not advise getting it though, since you will need more plates anyway and probably end up getting a bar, so the argos set shown is the best buy. Do not go for the cheaper argos weight kits, with plastic plates, they are full of concrete and take up more room on the bars, and start to degrade after time, also the bars with the cheap kits are hollow and not rated to take a lot of weight.

Irishlifting do a better set with 5kg more at the same price, post is €14. but irishlifting also do cheaper 20kg plates.

If I was starting out again I would get the 55kg irishlifting set and 2x20kg plates, the large plates have a big diameter which means the bar is higher off the ground, which is idea for doing deadlifts, one of the best exercises you can do.

    EDIT: Post was €14

Thanks for the bump man btw postage on the set is only 14

Sorry to hijack the thread a little but I just put in a test order with four 20kg plates on Irish-Lifting and the delivery charge was listed as €21. Is there a link on the site that explains how the delivery charges are calculated? I found the conditions page but that doesn't have figures on it. I'm just curious because there are two different delivery charges listed in this thread already.

Yeah, that would be useful. I got the €28 the other day, I think Faith was looking to get some and though the postage was free so I checked, my 2x20kg plates were delivered very cheaply. I was already registered but any potential buyers would have to register just to find out the post costs (or would they?)

I like to see how things are calculated, e.g. on bulkpowders I knew the post was fixed up to 25kg, so I would add stuff in that I might not otherwise have bought.

So if the person buying the 55kg kit found out the price is only €14 for up to 70kg, they might thrown in a few more plates. If the 70kg is stated they do not have to do it by trial and error order placing and checking out.

€14 is a great price, dunno how the couriers do it! If going to argos a 50kg kit is going to take 2-3trips to and from to your car for the average person to bring it all.
I checked again and €14 is showing up. I think the site holds information for a long time and I might have clicked on the kit twice at some stage. i.e. I had 2 kits in my cart, which did show up as €28 when I pick 2. When I am on the page showing the post cost it doesnt actually tell me what is in my cart, just says "equpiment". Sorry for that confusion Mickk.

The irish lifting plates are tri grip
    image1_140.jpg
these are easier to load on and off, and can be used themselves as dumbbells, the 20kg ones can be used for squats arms by your side, since they are flush with your body. The irish lifting ones seem to have a tougher coating /paint job than my argos black york ones. Many of my argos ones have begun to rust a little, and it can stain clothes or carpet, the irish lifting ones have held up well so far.

Well I had to register to find out so yes, potential buyers do have to register :) In this case it's no problem for me because I will be buying extra plates but a casual browser might be discouraged.

That's good to know and definitely makes the Irish Lifting ones a far more worthwhile investment!

Sorry about the confusion, it is on the main page and also the main equipment page but I will get the designer to put it on every page. The equipment shipping costs 7 euro for every box up to 30kg. 4 20kg plates is 80kg so its 2 30kg boxes and a 20k box (in theory) so its 21 euro. The 55kg set is one 30kg box and one 25kg box so its 14 euro.

I'd give another thumbs for Irish Lifting, great quality kit at great prices.
I've bought two bars, various weights, chin up thingy, dumbbell bar (see pic on left for my regular dumbbell press...yeah right..) and my bench from there and no doubt i'll be buying more stuff in the future (when i get more room !!).

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/
