Faulty RAM (discussion)

Today I got faulty RAM, again.

I have made about 5/6 RAM purchases so far and on 3 occasions the RAM has been faulty which I had to get replaced. I never had any other problems with any other hardware (Apart from a gfx card fault but I managed to sort it out). Im presuming that its just bad luck on my part or perhaps the RAM demi gods have it in for me.

So has anyone else had similar experience?

Im guessing that the manufacturers don't do enough testing on Hardware in general and that maybe RAM is more difficult to test then other components.
I don't purchase RAM from the same manufacturer every time either, just in case people are wondering (Or for the same computer). 'Crucial' seem to have the most reliable in my experience.

Only bought RAM once (from an online store) and it was faulty

Or it could be your buying the wrong ram for your motherboard. Did you check your motherboards compatibility list ? If not the problem is pebcac :)

Yep, compabtability is never an issue. I usually buy full systems/Bundles and then just purchase the same model RAM for an upgrade. Or use the crucial system scan when ever possible

May very well be pebcac (Never heard the term before I looked it up). :)
Its possible that when inserting new memory that Im applying too much pressure. It always makes me sweat, I do my best to be gentle but it always requires a bit of force at the end

I've built about 3 or 4 PC's over the last few years and out of around 8 sticks of RAM I've used only ever had one go bad. Even then it wasn't that big of a deal. I quickly diagnosed it by using memtest and then sent it off for replacement. It only took about a week and I could still use my PC with the one good stick while I was waiting. Sounds like you've been unlucky with your RAM?

Have you been using reliable brand name RAM are is cheap generic stuff? Although having said that the one stick that did go bad on me was Corsair.

On one occasion I did buy cheap ****ty RAM from PC world as a temp upgrade (Which ended up faulty).
The only Brands I have purchased have been Crucial, Corsair and Geil (And whatever crap I got in pc World that time). So good quality stuff, While crucial memory is generally cheaper, I wouldnt consider it low quality.

Nah crucial is pretty good stuff to be honest. I doubt you could be breaking them putting them in. Ive split beer on ram before and just wiped it off and it worked no hassle. Ive build probably 30-40 pc's in the last 10 years, and only once has ram been faulty on me.

Double check the ram with memtest to see if it is indeed faulty. And your deffo not mixing and matching ram types yeah ?

Yeah Im going to run memtest after Im finished installing another hard drive. Yeah theres no chance of them being mixed up. Im very meticulous when installing/replacing hardware, using a digital camera and postets.
