"Friendly Game" - United Fans V Liverpool fans

could be a recipe for disaster, but anyway, its worth a shot.

Seen as this forum is dominated to a large extent by United and Liverpool fans, lets battle each other where it matters - on the pitch. so, how about a "friendly" between both sets of fans.

venue, time, date, grass or astro, rules, 5/7/11 a side can all be debated on ere.

    so, whos up for it?

    rules so far -

1 - your allegance must be clear, i.e. you must be a united or pool fan and it must be obvious who you support (i think it will become clear this week, if there is any doubt)
2 - you cannot be a ringer, you must be an established soccer forum member and you must have a certain number of posts(TBC), the purpose of this is to have it a real boards match, not mates of mates playing to make your team better.

    thoughts please?

You up for playing? 20 votes

Why don't you just challenge Mr Alan to a duel instead? Admit it, the only reason you're proposing this friendly match is so you'll have a chance to break both of his legs.

Any odds for an abandoned match due to extreme violence and general onfield carnage?

What poor soul is going to referee this massacre?

I wouldn't mind a go at this. Just depends on when it is, but if I can make it I'm definately there! I'm a pretty good keeper, played for the NECSL u15's and had a few trials for EL clubs... Have only played in goal in GAA since though, so I may be a bit rusty! :D

:D:D DesF is the man as always! Lets hope the boards Liverpool players put on a better performance on the pitch/astro turf than the real thing have done in the last few years.

If his can be organised for an evening in the next two weeks, I can get my hands on that pitch we played our last match on Ed.

Or else a Saturday in the place we played a couple of friendlies on in Glasnevin.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭lordgoat

Wherebouts are those pitches Des? It would be hugely surprsing if we can get 10 players from on here for a 5 aside at least.

To start with the excuses already i haven't played in about two months...

    They are 11-a-side pitches.

One is in Glasnevin, the other is in Knocklyon/Firhouse.

I'll play, will be able to bring a Pool fan aswell maybe two and they are pretty good.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha homer-must not have liked my pointing out the vileness of OT last night ;), unfortunately, i have not played ball since i was about 16 and i fear years of drinking and smoking may have taken a negative effect on my fitness levels!

and as for Des reffing?!!? yea right ;) Des hates the scouse!

    Mr Alan.

    I invite you to either

    Put Up

    or

    Shut Up.

Sir lays it down... This'll be interesting!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

well unfortunately to say, i'm sure a scouse team would be better off without me in the side, so in that case, i'll have to shut up.

but if this goes ahead, i'll be there on the sidelines.

    and shouting abuse at Des.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,080 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

I'll play if its 5/6 aside. Not quite fit enough for 11v11.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

I would be interested in playing but I assume this is going to be held in Dublin?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

I thought it would be held in a town halfway between Manchester and Liverpool.

Aren't all these lads from the city of the team they support.

    Oh...wait...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭jameshayes

It should be spiced up a little.... Everytime you miss a shot or make a balls of a pass you need to take a shot! Loads of pi$sed pool & MU fans! brilliant! People would pay money!

des, piss off, i agree with most of your rantings about the EL, but this thread is of zero relevence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Alas living in a different country, would be fun though. That said, I'm a **** footballer, more a tennis man :)

Still, I'd really pretty the every time you mess up you need to take a shot. I'm pretty sure I could out drink most of ya (being a student and all :)), so I'd have the advantage, mostly in the 2nd half though :)

I forgot to add one of these at the end of my last post.

I'm leaving on Monday morning to head to austria for a few months, but in the off-chance this drags on and doesn't get organised till July or August, id definately be up for playing.

    +1 - I haven't played football in about 7 years! (and i'm only 23!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,080 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

How about we play 5v5 on astro and have roll on roll off subs. So even if there was 8 or 9 on each team we could play for an hour or so and everyone would get a decent amount of game time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭jameshayes

Is there more UTD fans that pool fans here? It seems that way...

Fairly sure the Liverpool thread gets far more traffic.

I play twice a week on the Astro 5 a side pitches on UCD. We could play there if it suits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

i'd be up for a five or an eleven a side, most days but Sunday suit me!

I would put that down to Alan to be honest:D: he posts far more in the liverpool thread that the united one, over 4000 posts, hmmm;)

as re dates and venues etc, we will leave this thread run for 3 or 4 days before deciding. 11 a side woud be ideal, but would be harder.

    the home team of course....;)

united in white, liverpool in there away jersey could settle one argeument or a simple toss of a coin.

I'll be there so. although with the chances that we would have more supporters there than Wigan usually have at a game maybe we should play it when Wigan are away to ensure that their supporters are not embarrassed.

And as for you reffing it, surely somebody impartial would be required. Ya know somebody who does not manage a bunch of players from one side or have a mild dislike for the players of the other team.

Who knows, if you played perhaps there could be a triangular tournament and the EL fans could prove for once and for all that they are the superior supporters.
