Just thought I'd throw it out there among the seemingly endless and increasingly ridiculous "(clubs/buses/taxis...) on Good Friday" threads. So, eh, what's the deal with Mass on Good Friday?

Well what with it being a Catholic religious holiday i think it only makes sense that they have mass.

Personally i don't believe in the whole thing so i only end up in a church for weddings and the like.

Repent or be doomed. Come to this Mass thing with me...sounds like a laugh..kind of like when teacher used to read us stories in Junior Infants...minus the wine (unless you had that creepy teacher)

There is no Mass on good friday - only day of the year you can't get a Mass.

How much is it in and what's the dress code? Are the bouncers pricks?

Exactly. On Good Friday people generally go to the church to kiss the cross and/or do the Stations of the Cross.

If it's such a good friday why do they say you can't eat meat? I doubt jebus thought it was a good friday either, he probably had better, going to weddings messing with their water, messing with merchants and their stalls, preaching on the mount, so on and so forth.

It's in other Christian churches as well.

How can you do the Stations of the Cross outside of Jerusalem. The real ones are posted along the Via Dolorosa. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_Dolorosa

You walk around the church and reflect pensively on the pictures of the stations around the wall of the church....

Is it not normal mass with the long gospel that they act out? Its normally at 3 o'clock and lasts forever. Do they not do the Stations of the Cross on Sat? Its that long from I went to Mass I forget!

Stations of the cross ftw, no mass. Its one church experience that offers some good reflection time.

Well technically catholics shouldnt eat meat any friday but its been watered down over the years. (hence the traditional fish and chip friday) Altho i know a few of non practising and practising catholics who dont eat meat on friday out of habit or choice.

Its called Good Friday because Jesus sacrifised Himself for us sinners. Hence the sacrifice we make by not eating meat etc.

I've done the stations on the side of a mountain in Lourdes and believe me the only thing I reflected on was how unfit I was and how I wish I'd gone home earlier the night before
