    Hi,

I am thinking of going to Malta in July for a scuba diving holiday. What is the best resort to stay in? Can anyone recommend good self catering apts/villas? Or, reasonable hotels?

    Cheers,
    Tom

Never been to Malta, but I have been to Gozo a couple of times and dived with these guys http://www.atlantisgozo.com/

It is part of the Atlantis Hotel, which is a very nice hotel in Marselforn. If you just want diving with nothing but a few good bars and restaurants (very little nightlife) then this is perfect. It takes about an hour to drive from Malta airport to the ferry then 30 minutes on the ferry and a ten minute drive. The Diving in Gozo is amazing and caters for pretty much all levels and abilities.

Check out Reqqa Point and the Twin Arches. Superb dives.

Thanks for the info. Can you reccomend anywhere to stay in Gozo? For flights & accommodate for 2 for 2 weeks my budget is about 2k - we didn't go away last year so double the spend this year! :D

We aren't that fussed about nightlife - as long as there are bars that don't shut too early! We are complete novices when it comes to diving so this will be the main focus of the holiday - a bit of a change from just eating, drinking & getting burnt!

The first time I stayed at the Atlantis Hotel, which is quite a nice 3 star hotel 5 minutes from the centre of Marselforn. Decent food, nice room and a decent pool. Second time I stayed in a farmhouse with a group of friends. Very nice but you a group of you to make it worthwhile.

Gozo is tiny, but the diving is out of this world. You can fly to Malta with ryanair and either hire a car or (If it is still going) get the helicoptor to Gozo. A car is useful in Gozo, but there are only two roads on the island and they cross at the capital, Victoria so you can get a bus everywhere.

Check it out though, because it is quiet and apart from a bit of siteseeing, diving is the main tourist activity.

by the way, I am off to Egypt for two weeks all inclusive with Falcon and that is costing €2600 for two adult and one child.

I'm staying in Sharm, you can fly direct from Dublin. Never been there before, but the hotel we are staying at is a family hotel and there are also direct flights from the UK.

The plan is to meet up with some friends from England, the kids go off to kids club, the ladies soak up the sun and, for the want of something better to do, my mate and myself will go and scare a few fishes or sink a few all inclusive pints:D

Might check out Eygpt - though I think I would be a bit nervous of heading to that area of the world!
