Apple being pushy wit AppleCare?

I got a MacBook Pro as a present as xmas, and by far the best computer ive ever had. I never bothered with AppleCare as it never really leaves the house and ive no kids, pets etc.

Got home from work this evening and got a phone call from some english guy.

Started off very polite "How do you find your MacBook Pro?" etc.
I start thinking how considerate of them :)

Then he mentions AppleCare and i knew what was coming.
Tells me i had a 3 month subscription when i bought it. (Never knew this)
Explains the whole process despite me saying i knew about it.

I tell him it never leaves the house, im very careful etc.
He then starts quoting me in £'s how much the repairs cost.
Still i decline. He then insists i give him a reason why i don't want it.
So i really start getting annoyed and tell him any problems i can fix them myself! To which he replies that if any1 other than an Apple technician removes a screw its void.
At this stage i'm really annoyed and tell him i already upgraded the hard drive.

He then hangs up. Not evan a "Thank you, Goodbye" :(

Where do they get these people from? I'm aware people do get AppleCare for peace of mind, but no is no. I also know Apple aren't the only company doing this but is any1 else annoyed by them?

I just laugh a bit and tell them I am a computer consultant. They leave you alone after a few minutes.

It generally happens if you contact Apple's customer care for any reason. They ring you back, ask you how the product is and try to hawk you apple care. Seeing as I used to sell Apple Care myself, and work with computers, I can handle them. :)

Oh, yes -- most considerate! :D That's very pushy alright. Well done on being so cool-headed about it.

Can you purchase additional Apple Care before the first free year runs out? I heard this on a YouTube video but am doubtful.

They are pushy, real sales types like anyone doing their job.

You absolutely can extend it, up to 3 years I think.

Wow, 4 macs later and I never got any calls :(

As far as I know you can buy it on the last day of it being a year old. Saves you tons if your screen gets damaged.

Oh really? I was under the impression that the screen wasn't covered. At least, I've a friend who insists this, although I've always thought it was odd.

The screen is covered, that came up in his mini lecture!

Yeah, everything is covered. I've never had to claim on it before, I was told by the Apple Store in Boston that it covers all parts of the mac.

well, everything under warranty's terms and conditions are covered... just before anyone else reading this assumes they can break their mac and apple will fix it no questions asked ;)
