Hi. Was wondering if you know anywhere to go (that is haunted) for an evening or a tour . Have been in Leap Castle, Kinnity Castle and Charleville Castle already and enjoyed it. I have tried Loftus Hall (Wexford) last year but couldnt get in contact with any knowing anything about it. Wondering could you recommend anywhere? Thanks in advance.

No i thought Kinnity and Charleville was "harmless" enough. Felt a bit creepy like yourself but didn't hear or see anything. Leap Castle on the other hand is hard to explain. You hear really creepy things and feel hot and then cold, it's hard to explain but i definitely wouldnt go back near the place. I would recommend it but believe me it's not for the faint hearted. There's also a real bad history to it so i think that could have a lot to do with it.

There is a hostel on Achill Island called The Valley. Its a really big old house, dates back to the 1850's I think. It has a weird past, a couple lived in it and one night the husband, James, went mad basically and set the house on fire. He dragged the wife, Agnes, out of the house and attacked her. He bit off her nose and she lost an eye, he ran off to England then. There is a film about it called Love and Rage. Anyway, I stayed there last October ,the staff said the house was definitely haunted but didn't really believe them at the start but by the end of the weekend I did! Strange things happened throughout the weekend. You should give it a look, website is www.valley-house.com

Wicklow Goal would be excellent for a late night tour. For an overnight Stay I would sugguest Ross Castle. If you found Leap cool whooo Ross will knock your socks off... lol :D

    Yeah Ross is great.

I'm not sure, maybe Grimes can answer, but are Ross and Leap both Norman Tower Houses?

    Where is Ross Castle?

Real Answer: Yeah both Tower houses but Leap is a bit more fortified than Ross and Ross is alot more recent. Leap fits the more "castley" definition while Ross is more like a medieval house of the Anglo-Norman (English) . There are about 5000 of these houses in Ireland. So when you see a castle , its more than likely Anglo-Norman. They are famous for building castles and churches all over the British Isles hence the name "The Church Builders"

Particulary with Ross after King Henry VI of England introduced a building subsidy of £10 in 1429 to every man in the Pale who wished to build a castle within 10 years. Thats why there are so many small ones like Ross. Leap is 1250 and Ross is 157..something. The clear difference is the true Anglo Norman Castle Leap v. the settled Anglo Norman English expressing their loyalty to the crown by building a small castle under Henry's scheme.

You regret asking now, look at the modship.

[injoke] Fake Answer: Shut up Mark [/injoke]

Ross is near Oldcastle close to Loughcrew Megalithic Cemetary
