Son of Training Run...

Well, in view of the response to the original thread, and seeing as how I can breathe a little better now, I'm proposing a training run next Saturday, March 22nd.

Route is same as before, with an initial meeting point of the Greyhound Track in Harolds Cross at 10am.

Possibly the easiest way to arrange this is to post below on Friday if you're definitely in or out, or PM me... I'll check Sat morning before I head out, and will wait for anyone who's said they'll be in a particular place.

I've only mapped up to Enniskerry, mostly cos we'll see how we're getting on from there. Anyone is welcome, regardless of your fitness, let's have a bit of craic, and get ready for the W200! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,278 ✭✭✭kenmc

well last week Tiny was there on a singlespeed (not fixed), el tonto was on a racer - specialized i think, his friend Paul was on a nice Bianchi and I was on a flat-barred racer, which was supposed to be dropped by now. but it just so happened that way - was only 4 of us. All welcome sure

V-brakes won't work with STI shifters unless you get a travel agent. The STI's can't pull the cable enough for v-brakes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,278 ✭✭✭kenmc

Yep, thats exactly what I discovered - was bottoming out on the handlebars - this despite Giant telling me that the brakes would not need changing...
Do you know anywhere to get travel agents - can only see them on american websites, not UK ones? Also are the travelagents better than the v-adaptors?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,038 ✭✭✭penexpers

I'm not sure about the realtive merits of travel agents. You might be just aswell getting a set of centre pull cantilevers. They give better braking power than v-brakes do, in general. They can be a pain to setup but they will work with STIs.

Oh yeah, I might along to this next week, if it's still happening. Can't do this weekend.

The main problem for we with that is trying to get the brake cable to pull from centre - went to Hollingsworth and they gave me a front hanger, but there's no way of putting it on, cos it's up tight with my stem. They didn't have a back hanger to fit either. It's a pity cos I saw the Tektro Oryx cantis are compat with STI.

You can indeed Molly, all are welcome!

@Planet X, Ken had it spot on... I've a flat bar paddy wagon, simply as it's my only bike at the mo, and I prefer flats for getting around town -the new (geared!) bike should be arriving in the next month or so, and will have drops :)

Due to the probability of chauffeur duties to my kids training runs this morning I didn't commit to this but I did get out and passed a group on the Enniskerry Road at 10.30. There were 3 out front in identical tops, toh they might have been a separate group cos I met them again on the Dargle Road in Bray later. Were you a group of 6 with a female in tow who gave me a loud (and very welcome) salte across the road as we passed at the Kilternan Hotel. Hope all went well and hope to join up with you in the future

The 3 in front weren't us, the rest were!

Was much fun anyway (even if I did have to walk a lil bit -damn single speed!)

I think I'll be out tomorrow, for a quick spin out to Enniskerry, then back via Bray. If anyone fancies it, I'll be leavin the dog track at 10, Dundrum about quarter past.

So, now I've showered, de-odourised and eaten I can finally type :)
Was a great run, a good steady but gentle pace up to Glencree, then we split. Was actually relatively easy going up over the gap, but coming down was a bit of a struggle with the headwind! I was a full 20km/h slower on the descent than my last descent!Madness! Off down to Blessington, then Naas and through a sleet shower before I started to die due to the almost non-stop headwind from there. Finally called in the cavalry at clane - just couldn't face the long long headwind from there to Celbridge. Oh well. Feeling good now though, might go for a spin tomorrow to loosen out the legs..
Thanks to all for a lovely morning!

don't blame the drink, blame the drinker. slightly poor form dude. but i'll let you off this once. :p

well i turned up. as did 'the boss of me', and had a decent oul spin out to enniskerrry and back via glencree. went out a different way than last time but came back along the same route.

after two days of that i just went out to do a few of laps of the phoenix park and found it tougher than i ever have before.
