    Hi there,

    Im a bit confused!!

Do you just pay corkage on wine you bring to the hotel yourself or do they also charge corkage on the wine you buy directly from them???

    Thanks

Corkage is only paid on wine or champagne that you provide yourself. Usually there is a fairly extortionate charge for corkage to put you off bringing your own. This is because there is a huge markup on wine.

Yes, and they still have to provide and wash the glasses etc. I don't really blame them - they are losing out on revenue they would normally expect.

They are already doing pretty well considering I am paying over 6000 euro for a meal. Throwing in a few clean glasses shouldn't be too excessive. I am already paying for the same serving staff as part of the meal. As far as I know I don't have to pay them extra to put jugs of water on the table. But don't mind me, I am just getting bitter over wedding prices.

You're not REALLY paying for glasses, serving etc. You're basically compensating them for not getting the wine business even though you're using their premises. Best not to dwell on it and just consider it an unavoidable cost. I think it varies quite a lot between venues.

Good for you. Bargain hard, in these times they won't want to loose out on that amount of business.
