    hi all,
I've just purchased a 2yr old registered connemara filly and am wondering what are the pros and cons of breeding her now.

tbh, and no offence, but plain stupid!

its also not fair on her body, as it has not fully developed, she is still only a baby, it'd be like having 10 year old girl have a baby!

And the connemara market is completely flooded with ****e ponies at the moment from people breeding from any oul nag, you want to be sure has good blood in her, and her conformation is good, and only then should consider breeding her, and only breed to a good stallion, not some yoke that you just happen across!

but just re-affirm it is a mistake if you breed from her at that age! i would leave out on grass for at least another year or two!

There aren't any real pros to breeding from her now. Try and hold off to get a good performance record with her. She is not fully developed herself so would not be likely to carry a healthy foal to full term. Try to hold off for a few years and see how her temperment turns out as well as establishing a performance record with her.

many thanks for your replies-advice taken on board.
Does the same logic apply to breaking and riding her?
And also how do I go about establishing a "performance record" for her?

Personally I wouldn't break her until next year but thats just my opinion. We normally wait until the summer when they are 3 before starting anything. Pm me for any advice if you like.

Is there anybody knowledgable in your area who might be able to help and advise you? No offense, but it sounds like you might need a bit of direction.
Generally, you shouldn't be thinking of breaking her for another year at least. If you look at her passport she probably won't be turning 2 until some time this summer. Remember, she's just a baby, so don't rush her.

Why don't you join the Connemara Pony Society http://www.cpbs.ie/
They might be able to point you in the right direction and I believe they are holding educational nights also.
