I am saying overrated at this moment in time as i think he has done very little lately but in his heyday he was highly underrated. What he did for electronic music is remarkable, take a listen to his original work (Oxygene), great stuff for it's time.
I would love to go to his concert tonight but it's a pain in the ass taking time off work and making the journey up etc..rant!

u just gotta love the mad Frenchman thing he has/had going on...

I dunno both I suspect, the critics never liked him while some fans are bit OTT. I dont like his stuff these days (any of it).

hey guys, as Kraftwerk and the likes, you have to respect them for what they ve done at the time. So underrated for people who just get to know them/him and think it sounds a bit old-ish. Over-rated by people who are still cursing by him now when you have plenty of new-comers using software as never before

Went to this gig this week. Yes very impressive range of machines and sounds without using midi (or at least appearing not to) to co-ordinate it all.
However, I think William Orbit or Brian Eno or better.
Jarre makes some good sounds but very few of his songs or pieces are actually that good. I think he's a big name for being one of the first rather than one of the best.

Most producers see all that gear and end up banging out a dance track. Jarre scrapes the rules. There can be very little melody and some pieces can just sound like a mix of special effects. Yeah not bad. But I am wondering could anyone with some musical know how and access to those machines just do that.

Whereas I don't think anybody could do the stuff Orbit or Eno have done.

Think the actual music overrated, but for those massive shows to millions, taking electronic music and turning it into the biggest show on earth, he must be commended.

    Think he's fantastic.

Holding the world record for the largest crowd at a concert (3.5 million in Moscow) is just outstanding.
