Recommend some good Slasher Films??

Recently I rented 'Catacombs' and 'Dark Ride' - 2 really, really awful slasher movies. I didn't even finish watching them, turned them off after about half an hour. They were boring and predictable.

Are there any good slashers worth a watch out there? (I've seen Halloween, Friday the 13th and all the classics - just looking for something new and original, or is the slasher film dead??)

Modern slashers that I have seen suck so my advice would be to go for some of the 80s slashers.

Heres a few that I thought were quality. Some can be pricey enough to get your hands on though cos the vast majority never got an uncut release here or in the UK so they have to be imported(whats the point of buying a cut horror movie)

    Maniac
    New York Ripper
    The Prowler
Murder Set Pieces(not strictly a slasher, more a serial killer flick but brutal as hell)
    The Burning

Thats all I can think of for the minute.
    Will list more later.

I don't think the slasher film will ever die out . There will always be a new generation of film makers rehashing all the old ideas to scare young audiences.

I saw Catacombs and I didn't think it was too bad. Just completely unoriginal. All The Boys Love Mandy Lane tried to do something a bit different with the genre. I really liked it.

From the 80's heyday check out Prom Night, The Funhouse and My Bloody Valentine. Also as was mentioned The Burning is pretty good. Post Scream, I think Cherry Falls is one of the better ones.

A blade in the dark is solid enough

I can recommend 2 new ones:

Simon Says - Crispin Glover is in this and it's enjoyable in a 'so bad it's good' kind of way. Decent fx too.

Cold Prey - Scandanavian movie. Nothing very original, but done well and worth a watch.

    Avoid:

The Tripper - A real mess.
