    Hi All
Does anyone know of any north dublin city running clubs.
I want to get back into running but would prefer to train with a group.
In particular around or in the phoenix park either in the evening or at weekends. Anybody know any links? Information on any clubs in this vicinity?
Thanks for any help. I've trawled google and athletics sites but no luck.
Even south city might be ok too - in or around Stephens Green etc.
    Thanks all.

Donore Harriers in Chapelizod are just across the road from the Phoenix Park. Google them for more info.

    Check out http://www.irishfit.eu/marathon2.html

My gym has affiliated with Irish Fit so that we have a running club for our members. Training starts every Saturday at 10am sharp. Each run is hosted and lead by Sean McFadden, an Ultra Marathoner. Sean is also available for individual coaching and trains every level, total beginners to advanced.

Liffey Valley AC is just at the Phoenix Park aswell around by the memorial park I think it is.

I'm a member in Sheldon Park, do I get discount even though I'm already a member? :D

Depends what you are after but I'd recommend going to an official club like Donore. They have a new tartan track too. Other northside clubs include Clonliffe Harriers (Santry) and Raheny Shamrocks and while they are the two best elite distance clubs in the country by a mile they both cater for all levels. Clonliffe have a grand prix that runs from now till November and its a "tour de france" style competition with races on track, road, country and its all factored based on your ability. Raheny have similar races in the villageand good training groups. Also, try crusaders ac in Ringsend, they are getting a great beginners crew together at the moment and again have excellent track and gym facilities. All clubs will have training for all levels and have coaches/athletes across many disciplines that will help you. Join a club, your improvement will be massive.

As a member of our gym, you'll get special discounts on the training gear available on Sean's Irish Fit site. Contact Sean for more details. :)

Sean has also opened up a physio clinic in Blackrock, specifically aimed at helping runners. I've also been talking to him about setting up a special discount rate for our gym members. I'll keep you posted.

By the way, I'm the new manager at Sheldon Park. Come up and say hi sometime and I'll put you in touch with Sean. :)

Oh you're the new bloke in the shirt and tie who sits in that little glass room on the computer all the time then? You always look very busy... ;)

Bear in mind, I manage the gym PLUS look after all the sales, marketing and admin. It's somewhat of a juggling act.

Right now, I'm busy generating leads for the gym - we have no website so I'm currently working on that and many other things, including affiliations with the likes of Irish Fit.

Posting on these forums, providing helpful advice whenever I can, is all part of increasing people's general awareness of our gym. As you know, we're linked to the hotel so many people aren't even aware that we're even open to the public. My aim is to change that and bring in some really cool things to the gym that no other gyms have (different classes, seminars, affiliations with clubs etc).

I'm only winding you up. The affiliation with Irish Fit is a good one, I'd actually completely forgotten about the site as well. You'll have a big job to do when the new leisure centre opens up in Ballyfermot members are always going to jump ship and try out the new place. You must be doing something right anyway the place seems to be getting a bit busier.

Edit: Any opinions you want, feel free to ask. Being a member I'll see things through a members eyes...and I hear the mutterings in the changing rooms too ;)

Sure - I'd appreciate any feedback and suggestions from members. The main challenge is to make improvements that inspire the exisiting members to stay and also make changes that inspire new people to join.
