Hooking up a Dolby at the moment but the wires I have are not long enough for some of the speakers - my query is in terms of the quality.

Kellehers quoted me €14.10 + Vat for 100m of it
    Peats quotes me:

    €0.40 per metre for standard
€1.140 per metre for more expensive
€5.00 per metre for 'high quality"

Would I even notice the difference - would it be crackly ? or enough for my needs - not exactly a large room, a little more than average sized sitting room for a 3 bedroomed house.

Should I go for the standard quality or as one wholesaler advised me 'don't bother with that stuff from Kellehers - go to Peats' ??

The quality of speaker wire isn't hugely important but differnet cables do give different results so don't be tempted to go for the cheapest. I'd go for the middle priced one. At .40c a metre the cheapest is just bell wire, it will get a signal to the speaker but it will be a compromised one.

I'd always go for at least 79 strand cable as you'll be able to use it for years in different setups. Peats is ok but Maplins is just around the corner and I've found their stuff a little bit better – compare price between the two I suppose.
Strip the wires of about an inch of plastic and tightly twist the strands so that you get a neat clean contact.

Yeah try Maplin's, I purchased some 12 gauge 'Shark' speaker wire (not sure what that is strand wise, but its quite thick). They sell 10m reels for around 20euros, however if you ask at the counter they do a 50m reel which is better value than the 10m, although guess depends on how much u need?

Cheers Gents - put them up last night .. maybe I am not used to them but I prefare a sound of a lower volume.. I didn't get a chance to properly fiddle around with it, but can't seem to get the surround sound to work for watching standard T.V. - the set up is not an expensive one, was given as a present so it's a case of 'I have to use it, or at least give it a go'...

Also now it is a case of trying to hide them as best as I can..!
