Just one of the many benefits of living here... although the ground shakes from time to time

When do ye think you'll have this in Eire? Ever?! The world is moving on yet somehow Ireland has managed to have amazing economic growth even though it's broadband infrastructure is draconian .. that in itself is quite a feat.

Mine isn't too bad, but tbh, I'm not using it to it's full potential.

Why don't you rub it in? :p

I'm only getting 15Mbps with Smart.

Actually, I only get about a tenth of your Smart when I'm at home on the O2 BB, but I find it perfectly acceptable for what I need there. Any heavy duty stuff I can do at work.

    I'd give it 2 years.

8Mb/s should be quite common place by the end of the year, I can see this doubling or even tripling to 24Mb/s by the end of next year.

Whenever I think of Japan though it always reminds me of this poster :D

    10Mbps Metro in Limerick.

The lads on CaseyVision get good speeds.

But over 50% of eircom customers only take the 1Mbps package. I'd bet if there was a RELIABLE 512k package at €15 pm with no phone line rental needed, most people would take it.

The majority of phone lines will never do much more than 4Mbps. Only those close to exchange, and haven't failed DSL in 1st place get 8Mbps, so it's already a minority sport.

    10Mbps Metro in Limerick.

Hi Watty, which Metro package are you on? I can only find 5Mb as the maximum speed for Metro on Digiweb's website.
If you have those speeds because you are an employee of Digiweb, nobody else will have those speeds or only at great cost. You think that most people are happy enough with speeds up to 2-3 Mb but if the rest of the world gets 6 for the same money (or slightly more) I think that most people will chose the 6Mb anyway?

As a happy Digiweb customer, I really hope that Metro will go up in speed, or else at least will become cheaper. It's about time after 2 1/2 years of stagnation.

If the Metro technology does not support higher speeds (than 5Mb) for a lot of people, is the mast partitioned in zones?? Because then Digiweb could consider increasing the speed for the zones that are underused? Yes that will not give speed increases for all but at least for some? Or does the technology not work like that?
