June or thereabouts. You need to wait til new scholars and postgrads apply for accomodation.

There's not a lot they can do about it. New scholars (and scholars moving onto postgrads I guess) don't apply til after the last week of term and they need to be accomodated first.

but surely there is some way that they can give people a certain indication of wether they are goign to get it or not, withut neccessarily assigning them a room yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

How can they if they don't know exactly how many will be available?

In practical terms, I can't see it making much difference to the individual, (unlike say knowing exam timetables early, for holidays etc.). If you need time to seek out alternate accommodation, June 'til October is more than adequate.

    oh is it really?

the place where I am staying sells out in april every year almst immidiately, as a result I will have to pay 1 months deposit then incase I dont get campus,

I know I could find someplace else, but i would prefer to be somewhere i am happy and where my friends are for 4th year then starting anew again.

Just a hypothetical question, since scholars are AFAIK automatically given accomodation on campus(if they want it) and it is required to name a sharing partner for certain types of room on campus, does a non-scholar have a greater chance of being awarded a room if applying to share with a scholar. i.e They have to give the scholar the room, do they automatically give it to the sharing partner aswell?

No, they can stick the scholar somewhere and tell the partner to feck off. Happens often enough.

    They'd better not though.

(Seriously. If you get Botany without me, I'm honest-to-God going to torch your flat. Possibly with you in it.)

That's quite a gap - does anyone know if they allow late applications from non-scholar undergradutes, then?

They're called "College rooms" not "accomodation" "On Campus", "apartments" or "flats". You need some collegiate spirit to live in college.

They're part of what make this institution what it is: http://www.tcdlife.ie/scholars/scholar/about.php.

The college website for this area, www.tcd.ie/accommodation, refers to them several times as apartments; the application form, if memory serves, uses the term "On-campus"; and in case it escaped your attention, their own bloody website url contains the word "accommodation".

I have to honestly ask: are you for real with this ****? Or are you just a bored and entirely unimaginative troll? On the off-chance that it's the former, are you actually saying that someone not knowing that "college rooms" is the traditional way to refer to on-campus accommodation shows a lack of collegiate spirit, as opposed to any measure of college contribution or loyalty? That someone needs to know such obscure terms (even the e-mails they send around don't use the term) in order "to live in college"? Because if you are, then you are a sad, crazy, pathetic little man, and I genuinely don't think there's going to be any helping you.

That website is made by a bunch of administrators catering toward tourists in the summer. If you read college literature the you will see "rooms" more than once. Residental colleges are a vital part of university life and the term rooms is well established.

You talk big on the internet, you're pretty pathetic yourself attacking people and becoming so emotionall involved in a debate over language. If you want to see how short and aggressive I am I'll meet you under the Campanile any night of the week..

Attacking people? Oh, poor AlexD; short, aggressive, and now with extra victim complex.

I don't think shay was becoming emotionally involved, I think he was simply putting an idiot troll in their place, albeit with added panache. You're a bit slow on the uptake, so I'll break it down for you: yes, that idiot troll is you, honey.
I'll meet you under the Campanile any night of the week..

That sounds like a great chatup line, up there with "Brace yourself, Bridey" and "Hey, does this rag smell like chloroform to you?". Nevertheless, my curiosity is piqued. How's about I bring the cheap wine and you bring the condoms?

A man is only short if he's my height or below....such men are rare though.

This topic really, really is not worth arguing about. I mean, come on....fighting about whether to call them 'college rooms' or 'accommodation'? Just drop it and shake hands like real men.
