    Hi all
I dont actually know why I am posting this but I guess it can do no harm. unreg obviously. Im a young male age 21 and in college. The last 6 weeks I have been cutting myself very severely, my arms wrists and once my throat (not deep) because of what I believe is depression. I have been down the counsellors/doctors route years ago in school and thought I was over that but I guess not.
The funny thing is I dont even want to die. its just a release from the pain (past events catching up, ruined relationships, sick/demented family members, etc) and also I am under immense pressure in college for the next month especially. Nobody knows about this yet I hide it well (not hard in this current weather). I am not going on anti-depressants again either, they make me very unstable and I lose fear of dangerous actions/situations.
So thats it. Thanks for reading if you did and I will consider and appreciate anyone taking time out to post a reply.

OP you beat this before and you will again - please seek professional help immediately. Either go to your doctor or a college counsellor. You just need to be helped through this.

You should make an appointment to see a doctor/psychiatrist immediately for this and he will take it from there. If your antidepressants don't agree with you tell your doctor and he will prescribe different ones.

Google the understanding self harm workbook. It really worked for me. It makes you challenge why you are harming and makes you look for alternative actions to cope.

Please PM me if you need help. I have the name of a very good counsellor who deals with people that self harm in a variety of ways.

Hey OP, self harm seems to be one of those vicious things that it's hard to break the cycle of on your own. I know you've been down the doctors and counsellors route before but I think it would probably help you again to try. If you're in Dublin i've heard great things about Pieta House - http://www.pieta.ie, they specialise in suicidal and self-harming thoughts and they're free. You don't even need a referal from a GP. There are plenty of other agencies you can contact too, they're all listed in the charter of this forum.

I think you should also pick a member of your family or close friends to confide in. They are the people that care about you most and will be the ones to stick by you and help you when you find times tough. I know it might be embarrasing or awkward at first but I think we all know at least one family member who will rationally and sanely help us out even in the worst circumstances.

    Good Luck.
