Vfr 800/v-tec Or Cbr 600f

    I've been trying to decide for ages now and i've come across a very cheap 03 factory restricted CBR 600F for only 5,600 euro. Yes I need it restricted because of my restricted full licence and is the reason why i've re-considered a VFR. I have no idea how well a VFR would perform with a restriction kit fitted but it should be as good as a cbr 600f i'd say.

    Its looking like I'd have to choose between the factory restricted 03 cbr 600f for 5,600 or an aftermarket retricted VFR 800 V-tec 01/02 for about 6,500 euro. my budget was for 5,500 but ya know yourself.. :D

    I'd go for the vfr, the cbr looks a bit tired now, the vfr may have a built in immobiliser (H.I.S.S) it's may be a lower insurance bracket too since it's a sports tourer

    no choice in the matter. licence dictates that i must. Just cant decide between a VFR 800 or a VFR V-TEC. One question noone seems to know the answer to is which one has the valve clearance problems? is it the vtec or the non vtec? I know the non vtec has a rectifier issue but thats a small problem.

    I simply want it for touring but I just love the sports look. Was looking at a Suzuki V-Strom 650 as well but its not half as nice looking. Although, maybe more reliable when you consider the valve clearance and rectifier issues with the vfr's

    VFR750s are one of the most reliable bikes ever built. The reasons are well documented. All gear driven cams (the 800 has one set of gears at the end of the block) and almost no known faults. Many very high mileage 750s still running around. Could you bring yourself to buy an older, possibly better bike?

    I know I will stick with 750s until I can't get them anymore. Next bike: Another 750, but 1993 model (I'm limited to 15 yo bikes for the oul insewerance) but I'm sure the 800 and indeed Vtec ones are great bikes too. There was a complaint about the 'abruptness' about the way the (simplified, not the same as the car version) vtec kicked in. All it does is shut off 2 of the 4 valves per cylinder when engine revs drop below a certain threshold. No timing control or anything like that so I don't think I'd be swung into buying a vtec one 'just because'.

    If neither bike is Factory Restricted, then I would opt for the VFR (probably vtec but need to check further) as it is a much nicer looking bike IMO.

    Factory restriction will give you a good saving on insurance, aftermarket restriction will not save you a penny, and I'm guessing the VFR is group 10/11 and the CB is maybe one group less.

    As FR, the CB is group 5. I know someone with one, and the restrictor kit is a set of washers in the carbs, so if you want full power...
