Another glorious day at work, where double pay is an evil word for the poor old salaried chef.

Should be great old craic, the rowdiness works it's way into the kitchen at times. The usual salutation of "up your sister" will be replaced with "how's she cuttin". Lots of Irish spoken in the day time, by 10pm we will be having a go at Swahili or the likes, Jameson will flowing by then as will the BS.

Always nice to meet a friendly drunk on his way into the kitchen,...looking for "da jacks"

Staying in and watching cheesy horror films followed by a healthy selection of badly dubbed 80s kung fu films.

Queuing a half an hour to buy overpriced drinks in a pub. I shall not be doing that this year. It'll either be a house party or stay at home this paddy's day.

All it means for me this year is that it's Monday and I'm in work. Woof*ckinghoo.

It's a day in another country and where I can wear my 'kiss me I'm Irish t'shirt and get loads of offers.

Back to normality for the rest of the year. :)

Really? So why is today St. Patricks day?

Considering there were about 14 threads about this I don't know why I'm explaining but here goes anyway.

You can't have a liturgical feast in holy week so the church changed the religious celebrations of St. Patrick's Day to 15th March. The non-religious celebrations were not changed for obvious reasons. I was answering another poster who thought it had been changed to the 19th. I was also being sarcastic when I said he missed it, because he obviously has not missed today's celebrations, just the church ones.

+1, all Paddy's day means to me is that I'll be putting the feet up at home and staying well clear of the streets, in the party capital of the west...

On an unrelated note meself and the missus did go out on Friday, with some friends, (first time I'd been in a club in years), and some weird stuff happened; the both of us were individually propositioned by roughly equal amounts of men and women, I mean what. Now granted she looks a bit unusual (teeny little asian) but when did clubbing get so kinky in Ireland? Did I miss a memo? Not that I'm complaining, its always nice to get a compliment, but things have changed since I was a young fella...

What does it mean to me? Sweet F.A to be honest. We get once day a year to celebrate our nationalism and all we have is a ****ty parade, in Waterford City anyway. It disgusts me that other countries put on a way better show than the Irish themselves, than us!!
Seems like the parade in Waterford gets worse and worse every year:mad:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭Exit

    Doesn't mean much to me.

But it is annoying to see them call it "St. Patty's Day" over this side of the world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,032 ✭✭✭She Devil

Sweet F all .... infact it did nothing but annoy me all day because it was a huge inconvience to me, roads closed ... travel delayed, boyfriend working stupid hours, blah blah blah ....
and the irish are a disgrace holding disgraceful parades, i was so ashamed i switched off the tv when it came on ...
    bah paddybug :)

What dose it mean to me? Showing the rest of the world how Irish they're not by drinking them all under the table. Fridays and Saturdays are just practice days for me, Paddys Days is the main course

    I love Paddy's Days Lawls:)

It means buses are messed up so I just have to take a stab in the dark at when to go to the bus stop, also means Dublin at night is ten times more annoying than usual.

    Bah humbug :p
