Best recovery software?

    Hey, i have a few hard drives that have been formatted and a fresh install of windows has gone on top of them (family + friends etc)..

    I've been looking into getting some software to dig up the older partitions. I have used Easy recovery pro 6 (i think it is) but its absolutly useless for getting old partitions. In 'advanced' options you set the partition type, then select 'no MTS' to dig up the older partitions.. but when you click save then go to check the settings they are back to the way they were.. so it really just recovers stuff on the new partition thats already there.. USELESS!

    What would you say is the best software for digging up that old data? What have you used and how did you find it?

    Cheers

    thanks to the way windows fragments files there is no program to recover files from a formatted drive

    i am pretty sure that it would have to be a very slow manual recovery of file fragments from your drives current free space and piecing them together like a jigsaw puzzle.

    I doubt you will be able to recover anything but it wont hurt to try.

    In that case, these are some freeware apps I use;

    Recuva (From the guys who brought you Ccleaner)

    Data Recovery
