Opinion on Iomega Minimax

    Hello,

I am thinking of buying an Iomega Minimax stackable external drive like this one
    http://www.iomega-europe.com/item?SID=e76538982bffa1561de8ba5897f0f8e876d:4725&sku=131433671
I have seen reports that say that these drives can get extremely hot and also are quite noisey. Has anyone used these drives and if so , could you tell of your experience of them please. Apparently Lacie have discontinued their external Mini drive so the Iomega seems to be the only stackable option left for the Mini.

    thanks.

i have the iomega 750GB drive, it is great, given that I have only 80GB on my mac mini.

Yes the sound from the disk is a lot noiser than the mac mini, heat aint bad as the enclosure, dissapates heat very well.

if you dont requre huge capacity get this: http://stores.ebay.ie/Atlast-Solutions_External-Enclosures_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ3QQftidZ2QQtZkm
and pair it with a 2.5" sata disk which would be quieter...

Bought the 250gb one and tbh it's the only piece of tech i've bought in the last 5 years that i regret.
    - Noisy
    - Only powers up and down with your mini if you plug in usb by itself. If you plug in firewire it refuses to start and power down with the mini meaning you lose the firewire hub functionality
    - Sleep mode doesn't work on it properly
    - It is overpriced. Iomega brand a 3rd party enclosure that you can by cheaply online in germany and stick a drive in yourself.
