I worked for a short time at an unpopular company... is it holding me back?

Hi folks, I've been unemployed for two and a half months in the North West and I'm starting to get a bit paranoid that I'm unemployable.

First off, I have been here since September. From October to January I worked at a company that is on the fast track to pissing off the entire county's worth of business owners.

So my CV has these two issues: I worked at this awful place, and I didn't last very long. Both are bad things.

To add yet another negative, I'm not from Ireland, and it's of course obvious as soon as I speak to anyone or they see where I got my Bachelor's. I think in the current climate (slowing economy, more native Irish on the dole again) I might be an unpopular candidate. This might be paranoia, but after two and a half months I'm getting really twitchy about stuff. I'm married to an Irishman, which is why I'm here, but they don't know that unless they ask. And actually, a lot of them do ask why I'm in the country.

Ok and one last thing, I'm not some fit young goddess that a rich executive is going to want to look at typing 10 wpm all day long. I'm an extremely competent employee, I'm well groomed and well dressed, but I'm certainly not going to be given anything because of my looks. Which frankly I'd accept at this point if it were an option.

So I guess my question is, do I include the two months I worked at WeHateYou Company? Or do I leave it out, making it look like I landed here and never did manage to get a job over 7 months?

    Thanks for any help!

    Difficult one.

I think though you might be overestimating the negative effect of being an employee of that company. Surely potential employers recognise you were just an employee?

Certainly leaving the company off your CV altogether is an option.

Have you checked out http://www.sligojobs.ie ?

    Yup, it's a nice comprehensive website :)

There just don't seem to be that many opportunities available to me here, unless I want to work in a shop and even shops won't hire me (probably because I've got a degree, but who knows?)

Hopefully my chances would be better in Galway, which is where we're planning on moving over the summer.
