Using Xbox media centre remote with PC?

I'm setting up a Media Centre PC to use with the TV so naturally I want to use a remote. I was lookin at buying something like this, but then I realised that I already had a media centre remote for the 360. My question is, is it possible to get a generic infra red dongle that would allow the 360 remote to operate the PC or does the IR receiver have to be specific to the remote?

for mce you need the eHome receiver which is the one that comes with the ms remote.
i dont think it can be bought separately but some companies make their own version (hauppauge for one)

    maybe try ebay

I don't think you can use the Xbox360 media remote with MCE. I have a Vista MCE system with the eHome receiver and remote and my Xbox360 remote does not work on it. The reverse does work though: the media center eHome remote works on the Xbox360 (there's a setting to disable it as well).

In theory, yes you can use any remote control and IR receiver as long as you can program the application on the PC to translate the button presses.

Know of any application that does this for MCE? MCE itself allows no remote customization unfortunately. On Mac OS X, there's a great app called Remote Buddy which supports a number of remotes and allows control of practically any application. I haven't come across anything quite the same on Windows though.
