Doing your own makeup

Apart from the eternal quest to find a perfect foundation, I have plenty of decent makeup, have the natural look down pat and it does last all day for me, so I was considering doing my own makeup (maybe with a bit of help from sis) on the day. Also it's an excuse to go shopping for a new foundation :D
Definitely getting hair professionally done, but has anyone else done their own makeup? How did it turn out? Any advice regarding timings etc?

Would I be more likely to get an answer in Fashion & Appearance or The Ladies Lounge?? ;)

I did my own make up and was pretty happy. Bought about 4 new foundations. New chanel, Dior and a revlon one. Was most impressed with Max Factor's new one. Perfect touch? Also swear by their lipfinity range.

Anyway I had my makeup done professionally before and hated it. You want to look like you and happiness is the best makeup anyway. Had the offer of a free make up forever makeup artist for the day and turned it down. Both my bridesmaids said no too.

In terms of timing, I didn't give myself much, 30 minutes is all, whch is a good 20 minutes longer than I usually take.

I did my own too - I made an appointment in MAC and they showed me how to apply everything (I don't usually use foundation) so it would last the day. And I could get the correct colours sorted before committing to a purchase.

I practiced it a few times before (just after I had the hair trial-runs) and I gave myself an hour on the day to get it done just in case. Nothing worse trying to line your eyes with cake and a brush with 5 mins to spare! It really lasted the distance - other than the lippy of course!
Make sure you give yourself a while after you put on your moisturiser to let it sink in. Say have your bath before you head to the hairdressers and when you come home start putting on the slap. Then get your dress on and put your lippy on last.

Be careful with your mascara though! And practice with all the new products you have bought. My sister bought me a mascara and I put it on my lower lashes and it smudged! Had to take it all off and put it on again (one eye)

I did mine and my Mams. Bought a nice No7 foundation...can't remember what its called but it gives a nice soft look nd bought Lipfinity lipstick that i had to scrub off my lips at the end of the night it lasted that well.
Have gotten my make up done professionally before and hated it so didn't want to feel like someone had gotten a trowel and cement!!! I got a nice blusher too. Try it out a few times and see what you think.
I did get my hair done...had it half up half down and natural curls so sat under "climazone" for an hour while it tried and the hair dresser pinned it back in 15 mins.
I did mine and my Mams make up in 30 mins tops!

    Timing stuff.
I got my eye lashes tinted about 4 days before, and if you need waxing or plucking make sure it's done about 5 -7 days before to allow for redness to die down. Paint your toenails the night before.

Great, no "OMG, don't even think about it" replies :D

Now that someone has mentioned it, I remember getting two makeovers at different counters before ages ago and the results were really OTT so that's another reason to do it myself, thanks all!

I think the reason they go really OTT with the makeup is that it looks better in the photos. Only guessing though and I wasn't bothered about the photos ( got a friend to do it for free cause as long as I got one good one I wasn't bothered)

    OH!
And I wouldn't go trying out any new treatments before hand - like tinting/waxing etc. If you want to do them for your wedding - do them now!
It would be dreadful if you had a reaction the week of the big day!
