So everyone on here has their respective disciplines going on with everyone competing at different levels etc, but after a conversation with a friend today it lead me to wonder -

Is there anything better in life, than gambolling along a road/track/beach/forest on horseback with great friends, on a crisp cold day in February, a scorching hot day mid summer or an auburn evening with the sun setting in autumn?
That’s definitely one of my favourite things to do in life... We usually smoke and chat about everything and anything and just roll along at a leisurely pace with the dogs following along behind...

Then roll into the pub for a long slow sip of a cool bottle of bulmers after.... :D

AHHH Roll on the long evenings and better weather!

Without intending to turn this into a thread on riding while dogs are loose.... But have you ever been to a riding school (including the big ones) where there hasn't been at least one dog (generally a big dog like a German Shepard) running loose around the establishment?!

When I take the horses out for a walk around the fields to cool them down or to give them gentle work, I'll always have at least one dog with me. They like to come with me and chase any quarry that happen to be out at the time! It's also really good training for the horses for when they go hunting.

There's not many forests, etc to ride in near me, so going for a walk around the farm on the horse is the next best thing for me. There are some fantastic views over the countryside from the top of the farm - fantastic on a summer's day. It's so quiet - all one can hear are the birds, crickets, and the sound of the horse walking in the grass and the dogs jumping in and out of the ditches. Peaceful bliss! :)

I remember hacking through the woods at Curracloe years ago with some mates on a regular enough basis. It was fantastic! Was too young for the beer though!

ONE of the best things Eva!! Remember we used to go on "pub rides" lol. Long hack across green fields and woods on a summers afternoon. Stables at the pub. In for a "few";) cold ones and back again. Savage.

*brings a tear to my eye*

Am so with you on that....Autumn evenings with the leaves starting to turn...either plodding along holding teh very end of the reins or cantering down a track!

Makes the cold, muddy days worth it!
