How much would a regular DJ earn on a night in a city centre pub? Standard tunes, using CDs or laptop.

Could be anywhere from €70 (yes lads it does happen, in well known and frequented establishmnts too) to €300 (very few will get that much, maybe only when you are bringing all your own gear)
An average of those amounts will give you an idea of what you should be charging, depending on experience, equipment (yours or theirs), length of gig, type of music etc...

I used to work at tommy bahamas doing the private parties. Mainily 21st's 18th's and 40th's. Used to do all the party cheesy stuff, and the charts. I took all my own gear and got €200 for working from 9pm to 12:45am. But if I work at shags nightclub from 10pm to 2:15am I only get €160.

I do a gig from 10pm to 12:15am in the strand house, they originally paid me €220, but said any chance can do it for less, as most of thier other DJ's do it for €150. I said I have very expensive equipment and so would do it for €190. (look at my sig and see what I mean, the shiny thing cost €3500 alone!)

So that might give you some more pointers.

I charge minimum of e150 without gear and e300 with gear for a once off session and would not do it for anything less. If you get a job as a resident DJ in a pub ie saturday nights and functions you can be expected to drop the price because you are guaranteed the work and also you could possibly store your equipment in a back room, save on hauling and set up times etc.

Equipment is expensive and people think its a handy e300 but one has to take into consideration always testing out equipment before leaving home updating playlists, transport and set up time plus constantly dealing with idiots who nick, damage equipment and spill drink all over the speaker cabinets etc!
