Address Book & Series 40 Nokia

I bought a Nokia 6300 running the Series 40 OS today and I'm trying to sync it with the MacBook. It wasn't supported by default so I downloaded an iSync plugin from here and now almost everything works: syncing contacts/calendar events with iSync, and dialling numbers, receiving calls and sending SMS in Address Book. The one thing that doesn't work is receiving SMS onscreen in Address Book.

I had a bit of a Google and found other people with the same problem but not much in the way of a solution. Just wondering if anyone here had any suggestions. Thanks.

    Running 10.4.11 by the way.

Ah well, would've been handy in some situations but not too essential. I got a lot further with this than with my old Sagem my411x. That thing was about as useful as a rock. Not a brick, bricks can be used to build things - a rock. Now, to find someone in the market for a nice shiny rock - any geologists here? :p

That's one feature I really miss in Leopard: not being able to SMS from address book :(

On your immediate problem. I bought a Nokia N73 last year which worked fine over BT and with iSync but wouldn't work with Addressbook. I thought Leopard might sort it out but as you can see above I was to be disappointed. Why the F*@k Apple removed this feature is beyond me. What even more annoying is given all the criticism they've taken over it, why haven't they replaced it !?

Nokia released a firmware update for the N73 and I though it would be a good idea to apply it seeing as how it enabled A2DP. So I did, big mistake !! Now the bloody thing doesn't want to know the Mac at all. I can only connect using USB.

So now I'm back with Sony Ericsson K800i. Everything works smoothly and in my opinion if you run a Mac then the only really compatible phones are SE. I can control the mac from the phone too which is neat especially if you have one setup as a media server. iSync works and I can use the phone as a modem and use a Bluetooth network - whatever that is/does

Of little consolation to you now I know but in future if you want 100% compatibility between phone and Mac: buy a Sony Ericsson.

    . . . . or an iPhone !

Or a Nokia E51, which i checked to make sure had an iSync plug-in first (Strange Nokia do it for the expensive ones, and not cheaper ones like the 6300). Now this phone is gorgeous. As thin as the touch, Wifi, syncs perfectly, email, 3G. It has given me second thoughts about picking up an iPhone in the US in August.

Nah, I love Nokias, never going near anything else after my Sagem experience. It's a minor feature for me tbh. And I've decided that the iPhone is an overpriced, underpowered piece of junk. Then again I'm the type that likes a phone that makes phone calls and sends text messages well, doesn't break and doesn't do much else :)

Thanks for the tip though, worth knowing all the same. Just in case ;)
