i'm hoping to be able to use my sky box in hungary. Is it just a matter of connecting up a big enough dish, positioning it correctly and tuning in the box or is there a specific dish i need to use to pick up the astra signal
any hints, tips or info would be great
    thanks

You are looking at a 1.8m dish i think, the Irish embassy in Budapest had it so might be worth a call to them

If the reception reports are to be believed, it'll be tough picking up RTÉ or some of the BBC channels that use Horizontal polarisation on Astra 2D with less than 2-2.4M. The other Sky channels should be OK.

At 2.4m you may need an elevation motor to slowly and slightly wiggle the dish up & down over 24hrs as NO orbit has zero inclination. There is a very small inclination, this means if you have a REALLY big dish the satellite appears to bob up & down over 24 hrs. Typically you will lose it 12hrs from time you aligned it.

Some people in Spain (size can vary from 1.2m to 2m along a road due to fresnel zones) simply fine tune dish for time in evening when they watch.

Thanks for the info guys, I've got myself a 2.4m dish which thankfully comes in sections. Fingers crossed I'll be able to set it up!

Is it a petalised dish? A Fortecstar by chance?
There's a discussion over at Digitalspy explaining how to assemble those. Not easy to get right, apparently.
