alright lads? just joined this forum. names whitser. i keep harriers and terriers. hunt foxes mostly but also do a bit of lamping with my mate and his lurchers.
have to say i was reading some of the posts on this forum and im really disappointed with some of the comments from lads regarding hunting with hounds. some lads saying they didnt care if it was banned cos its only for toffs on horses, other lad asked if he should vote yes or no in a vote on a ban. make no mistake lads antis want all countrysports banned. and its a case of united we stand.......if you have any illusions over wether antis want all our sports banned just look at the back page of the irish indo paper today, paul mccartney( beatle) talking about how cruel fishing is.
i dont like with lads shooting large numbers of foxes on the lamp with rifles but i'll support you in your right to do it. rant over.
any other lads on here with hounds and terriers.

I agree with you on the antis part but as a farmer last year i had to tell three different groups of lads with lurchers to F**k off. Just plod onto the land and work away no permission, cocern for fields with stock etc:mad:. On the plus there is a sound man near me who has a great pack of hounds and i reckon over his life(hounds and lamping with shotgun) he has accounted for thousands of foxes no exageration.;)

any land i hunt, not only have i permission im wanted there. most lads have respect for crops and stock. i wouldn't go onto a farm with a hound that wasnt 100% stock broken. cant tar all dog men with same brush cos of some dickheads.

Your right there just speaking of my experiences. Have often went with the man mentioned above and had a good days hunting.

i stand with you whitser i shoot the fox by lamp and with the hounds, standing the cover with the 12gauge, and it ain't the nobs i'm shooting with only a great bunch of lads that all love the sound of a hound barking his head off after a fox,its some of the best days you can have shooting......would hate to lose it.

The problem with lurcher's is the lack of training that idiots provide for the dogs.. They see dogs that are good at the chase but wont respond to the masters call, even to the point of breaking off the chase.. the bad feeling that exists about dog men was developed from fools with untrained dogs and thats as simple as it gets..... hunters should stand together whistser but they dont....... one group alway thinks that it has the moral high ground in terms of the most efficient kill.. There are those that frown on snares, fenns, bow, xbows, dogs, ferrets, hawks, lamping...etc The only two things that bond hunters together in ireland today are the land usage and country side alliance insurance. and thats it..

I recently came across a bunch of lads and lassies all kitted out in blazers, breeches etc - just like the hunt - except they were on foot! They had the pack of hounds and the horns and were about to tally-ho across the fields on foot....no horses to be seen! They were hunting foxes or whatever else happened to run from the hounds. I was sorry I didn't have my camera because they looked splendid in their finery - before they set off! Shame if the antis get their way and spoil sights like this.
Mind you, it messed up my days shooting...wasn't going to be too many pheasants left in the area.

you should've went along after them. i garauntee you would've loved it. nowt better then chasing after a pack of hounds in full cry. i bet you'd have been welcomed with open arms, breeches or not!
