Dole Claim?

I have been unemployed for two weeks, I plan to return to college in September to do a degree course. I had six months left on my work contract but left as my employer changed my job role without consulting me.

I live at home and have never claimed the dole before, have always been in college/school or worked.

Would I be entitled to claim the dole? I was told not to tell anyone of my intention to return to college as they will say no straight away if they know of this.

    Any help appreciated.

Yes you are entitled to claim for the Jobseekers Allowance (dole) - this is your right as an Irish citizen! There is no need to mention that you are planning on going back to college. In fact, if you had a job lined up in 1 week, you are entitled to claim the dole for the week you aren't working. As part of your means test, you will be asked about where you live, etc., and you mightn't get the full dole because of the fact that you don't pay rent, etc. ...also your age will come into determining whether or not you are seen as being dependent on your parents.

Finally, it would be worth your while checking out if you have enough PRSI contributions (stamps) to claim Jobseekers Benefit - with this payment you are not means tested. Check welfare.ie for details of contributions necessary to claim JB.
