Hybrid buses susceptible to tampering

The Municipal Railway will not use buses from its new hybrid fleet on one line that runs through the public housing projects in San Francisco's Hunters Point neighborhood until officials can stop troublemakers there from turning off the buses' power switches.

Muni drivers have reported over the last couple of weeks that people have been shutting down the power on their buses by flipping a switch that can be accessed easily through an unlocked panel on the outside of the bus.

I wonder how these buses would fare in certain areas in Ireland's cities :rolleyes:

The Dunadh do Ola (Fuel Cutoff) and Main Switch boxes are both unlocked without hassle in Dublin. That isn't really a hybrid-bus issue as opposed to general bus design IMHO.

all buses ahve an emergency engine stop button or switch whicxh has to be accesible...

Why do you think it's marked 'Dunadh Do Ola' and not 'fuel cut-off'?

Every bus I've seen recently has a big red button on it, even old ones have had them retro fitted. I think most people know what a Big red button does:D
