Backup

Am I reading the logic of my backup settings wrong?

Full backup on Friday, differential for the other 4 days.

    Data size so far is:

    Friday: 400GB
    Monday: 30GB
    Tuesday: 26GB
    Wednesday:16GB

I thought Monday would be files changed on Monday, then Tuesday would be Monday+Tuesday, Wednesday would be Monday+Tuesday+Wednesday etc.

    These are the settings:

    Weekly (Friday)
Full - Back up files - Using archive bit (reset archive bit)

Daily (Monday to Thurs (separate jobs/tapes) )
Differential - Back up changed files since last full - Using archive bit (does not reset arcive bit)

Looks ok to me, differential is just the changes between now and the last backup. Actually your answer is in your post at the end.

The description for the Differential back up is "all files since last Full backup".

So, if File A changed on Monday, File B changed on Tuesday and File C changed on Wednesday, it should backup all three files on Wednesday, as these all were changed since the last Full backup?

Yes, you're right shayser. You can use the latest differential backup to restore your system so it backs up like you say. So the sizes of your backups should be getting bigger and not smaller.

That practically the same backup idea as what i use in work, only difference is i backup a few TB. Works perfectly for us.
