    Hey dudes,

Is the PS3 Blue Ray capabilities Region locked ? In other words, would a US Blue Ray Disc play in a PAL PS3 ? Reason being as I'm seriously considering a PS3 more for it's Blue Ray playback and secondly as a games console.

    Cheers,
    TC

It is region locked but there seems to be quite a few region-free releases; far more so than DVD as far as I can tell. Take a look on Amazon.com and see if the films you're interested in are region encoded for the states.

Some disc's are region locked but most aren't. Check here for a list of blu ray releases and their region code.

Cheers lads for the prompt replies :)

I hope the old blue ray will look good on the 42" Pioneer Kuro I have my eyes on. Still looking in to a decent AV Receiver and speakers. I know this ain't the right forum, but do you guys have a similar set up ?

    Cheers,

Well, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Kuro, as they seem to be very well regarded.

As for AVR's, I'm not too sure, though I do see the name Onkyo bandied about. Personally, I've an older (but damn good) Denon AVR for my sounds, though as I'm moving house, I've not set everythign up to it, and not realised its full potential.

If you are getting a PS3 for bluray first then I would seriously consider importing from the States or Japan. Games are region free. So games in Ireland will work. Bluray movies are cheaper in the States

I have a Japanese 40GB, all blu-ray's I've tried play in it (US and European), as do all games (US, European and Japanese)
