Cellulite and hormones?

    Hey all,

I have fairly bad cellulite and was wondering if anyone knows if being on long-term steroids can lead to or worsen the problem?

I'm 26 and drink, but don't smoke or eat unhealthily and my mum is lucky enough to have virtually no cellulite while mine is quite bad. I'm thin but just have the horrible dimpling going on on my ass and thighs.

I have read that increased cortisol levels in the body (ie. caused by stress for example) can cause cellulite, as can increased oestrogen levels. While I'm off the pill now, I was on it for a number of years, and I've been on cortisone for 5 years for an ongoing illness. I'm just trying to shed some light on why I would have such bad cellulite at this stage, while genetic and lifestyle factors would indicate that while I would probably, like most women, have some cellulite, it shouldn't be so pronounced yet?

I've increased my water intake, decreased alcohol intake, started using L'Oreal anti-cellulite cream and dry skin brushing, and started doing some exercises like squats and lunges so hopefully that will help, but I've been wondering since reading that article on cortisol levels whether artificial cortisone in the form of steroids could be to blame too?

Many thanks for any opinions on this!

being a health professional you started doing all the things i would have recommended doing dry body brushing drinking more water etc. im not sure about the cortisol id discuss it with your gp or consultant on your next appointment. there is a great anti cellulite product out by the body shop there are two different products one is a lotion you put on twice a day and another tyou put on one a week and wrap yourself in cling film (I kid you not) when i did it first i had images of the fat guy in the full monty wrapping himself in cling film in his garden shed eating a mars bar. but it wasnt that bad ill post the name of the product here or pm you.

    That's great, thank you!
I'll check out the Body Shop next time I'm in town so.
Lovely mental image of the cling film btw. ;-) I'll just keep my fingers crossed no-one calls to the door while I'm all wrapped up!
