So what your saying is if you have one main striker, who scores alot of game winning goals then its wrong?

So Torres scores alot of goals that have won games, he is the main striker its his job to score the goals. I just think alot of non Liverpool fans are jealious that Liverpool have him.

nope, i never mentioned anything about torres, or liverpool, or anything

i was pointing out that your mans rant about the "incorrect" stat isnt correct, because hes basing that on his incorrect interpretation of the statement

my point was about the original post, not about fernando torres or liverpool

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

and how many times this year have Tevez or Ronaldo scored winners or goals in games Utd only won by a goal this year? I would vouch, quite a few.

The whole point is a stupid one being made by pundits in teh first place. What IF gerrard and Torres didnt play for Liverpool..... well, so wat?! they do and we are happy about that! :)

    +1

Liverpool are playing to the strengths of Torres and Gerrard!!!Saying they would be 13th without them is stupid as whoever is replacing them may score goals in those games!!

    You cant have Torres!!HES OURS!!!:D

pundits should spend their time figuring out where newcastle would be with sam allerdyce instead of keegan!

I just did a quick tally there!!I checked twice but Im open to correction

Utd without Tevez and Ronaldo--45 points!! they are currently 64(drop of 19 points)
Pool without Torres and Gerrard--38 points!! they are currently 56(drop of 18 points)

Guess both teams rely on both partnerships!!Then again players who replace them may score a few goals as well proving that its so pointless saying what if this what if that!!

So if most teams played with only 9 players for most the season then their results would be completely different?? This pundit lark would be a great job!

I was surprised to hear Dunphy spout this last night.

If it werent for Torres and Gerrard they would be 13th.

If most teams were playing with 9 players they would also be in the dregs. What kind of fcuking statistic is that? At least say "if you replaced those two with Derbys attackers, then they would be in x place". Which for a club with the pools funds would be a rather odd investment.

Studies have shown that if Man U only played with Rooney and Ronaldo up front, and no defenders, midfielders or goalie, they would lose 37-1 against Accrington Stanley on a good day. Did you know that a one man team consisting of only Claude Makelele (in his heyday) would still concede 35 goals if attacked by a team of 10 outfield opposing players?

Amazing stat, isnt it  Honestly, who comes up with this. Next yil hear that if the crossbar was raised by 40 feet we would see more goals scored.

    DING DING DING!!

Gray and Rednapp are unbelievably bad analysts. I take the point that on a general level most pundits talk crap. But it doesn't and shouldn't have to be that way. How is it that Guim Ballique (sp :o - the Spanish soccer analyst on Sky) can be so competent at his job whereas the rest are generally under prepared and / or inarticulate?

Pretty sure Guillem could do as good a job any Prem pundit could do on the Premiership, while most Prem pundits wouldn't know their ar$e from their elbow if they had to comment on La Liga.

But you have forgotten to give the teams who now got points from Man U the points that you have taken from united and so I believe your computations are flawed.

The position doesn't matter. The point is, utd would have dropped more points than Liverpool if their two top scorers were out.

Can't the pundits just be ignored? If I'm at home I might listen to them to have a laugh at the rubbish that they will no doubt come out with. If I'm in the pub I will take the opportunity to go to the bar/bathroom/smoking area.

It's an unfortunate fact of life that the football broadcasters have to appeal to the most people which basically means the lowest common denominator. Most people who have the capability to construct a meaningful post on an Internet forum are above that and so can easily see that Eamonn Dunphy is in fact a very grumpy old man who's ramblings should not be taken seriously, Jamie Redknapp has nothing interesting to say and Ian Wright is just wrong.

Or maybe you are dying for an argument that isn't there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,193 ✭✭✭pd101

If your going to take the top two scorers out of the each of the top 4 teams, then you have to do that with the rest of the league as well. Chances are they are still going to be in the top four places, so all this dropping down to 8th and 11th places means nothing.

an argument is way too much effort for this time but it's a point i have made before that there are a number of fans (not just united fans) on this forum who talk the talk but when a some stats are shown against them they tend to disappear.

    so more an observation...

btw i am pretty sure Andy Grey loves united, he never shuts up about them.

This thread has run it's useful course.

It amazes me that something that has so little to do with any team in particular can descend so quickly into a my team your team thing.
