Just a few thoughts I have ahead of congress.

That Congress will approve grant scheme (Central Council)
    Disagree

That all counties be allowed to compete in All-Ireland football qualifiers as was the case pre-2007 (Wickow)
    Agree Strongly

That wearing of hurling helmets in games and training to be made compulsory for all teams from Jan 2010 (Kilkenny)
Agree Strongly but why not with immediate effect

That All-Ireland finals be brought forward by two weeks (Clare)

Disagree Strongly - If not broken why fix it!

That filling cups and trophies with alcoholic beverages be outlawed under rule (Laois)
    Is this a joke??????
Why don't we ban teams from celebrating a victory all together???

Why would Laois be worried about putting stuff in trophies and cups?

I read somewhere that it is a particular club in Laois that is trying to pass this.Maybe Kaimera can shed some light on the loser club that proposed this motion.

In fairness,Laois are not in a position to try and pass a motion on any cup/trophy seeing as how they are not winning them.:p :p

    Sorry Kaim.

It is funny alright, although it is Tom Jones from the Heath GAA Club in Laois who wants to implement this rule.

Apparently a 12 week suspension for the player/team/both if the proposal was to be approved.

It doesnt just apply to county teams either, this goes all the way down to club level, so for those of you mocking Laois, surprise surprise, we do actually win some cups, albeit our own county ones

Jones apparently brought this rule into the Heath GAA a few years ago, and thinks its going well. [cos the heath dont win anything in Laois]

Personally I think its a load of ****e. Players train hard all year and the tradition of filling the cup with whatever alcohol ya can get your hands on is a priceless moment.

The point of trying to stamp out binge drinking is imo bollox!

As Gareth Southgate (Middlesboro Manger) said when he heard about the proposed 39 game abroad in the EPL 'I thought it must be April 1st'
Well I felt the same way yesterday when I read about this from Laois.
What purpose would it serve exactly??????

Roscommon barred the Tom Markham cup from being brought into licenced premises when they won the minor in 2006

Dont forget there are plenty of members of the pioneer abstanence association in the upper elements of the GAA. How often do you see a reference to getting rid of alcoholic sponsorship from letter writers and feature writers in the papers and on Des Cahill's radio thing?

That, though, is literally a storm in a cup compared to the grants thing. Any info on how the gang of opposer's are doing in garnering votes against it?

No offence to laois meant. Just saying it's a silly motion no more than if Monaghan had proposed it.

supporting silly motions gains you votes when, in 10 or 15 years time you get your silly presidency campaign under way!!
