Jobhunting Questions

I'm currently in the process of looking for a new job, I've never really had to do this before so I'm a bit clueless and have a few questions you may be able to help me with...

I've applied for a couple of different jobs - two with the one company, is this a big no-no? The closing date for applications for the first job had passed when I applied for the second job. I assumed when I hadn't heard anything about the first job that they thought I wasn't suited to the role, but I got called for an interview today. The thing is I would have probably preferred the second job - if I don't get the first job is it unlikely that I would be considered for the second job? I have been told that I will be called for an interview with another company also, it was supposed to be this week and I really hoped it would be because I have a couple of days off but now that looks unlikely.

When it comes to the interview is a suit absolutely necessary? I have spent the weekend looking but I can't find anything suitable, everything is white or pastel colours, I'm a bit of an odd size so I can't find anything in most shops and I don't want to spend a couple of hundred on a suit just for a couple of interviews. I have a skirt (just below the knee) and a jacket whick look smart and I was planning on wearing a blouse underneath, I'm just a bit worried because it isn't an actual suit???

My next question isn't really related to my jobhunting but my boss offered to make me a partner in the business. He asked me a year ago if I would be interested and at the time I said I would, he said he spoke to his accountant and she told him he wouldn't be able to do it until the end of the financial year. Is this true or was he just trying to put it off for a while? The reason I ask is because he has mentioned it to me again (I'm not interested at this stage, my mind is made up that I want to leave). He asked me to think about it and let him know if I want to go ahead with it, I just don't see how he will be able to do it now when he couldn't before (our year end isn't until August 31st btw).

Finally, it's just me running the business with my boss covering holidays. I don't have any formal contract so how many weeks notice should I give? I should probably mention that he has totally lost touch with the business so if I was to leave he'd be lost. I didn't mean for that to sound big-headed but it's true, when I go on holidays I come back to a pile of work - he just takes messages and gets me to follow up on them when I return. Part of me doesn't care because I feel I'm being screwed over, but I don't want to leave on bad terms and at the end of the day I'd like to be fair.

Sorry for being so long-winded, but like I said, I just don't have a clue about any of this stuff.
