Looking for a laptop bag

    Hey guys,

Looking for a laptop bag.. cant find anything nice that doesn't cost a bomb - but if I do I'll go for it.

Anyway, it has to be smallish - I have a Macbook so dont need anything big. Rucksack is preferred. Color wise, black or khaki, or anything in between or dark. Also after something sleek (ie; I dont need pocket galore on the front outdoor of the bag; I'd prefer nothing). I dont want something huge (ie: to hold a 17"!) since my MB is only 13". That, the power cord and a cable is all the room I need.

I quite like the Crumpler bags, but they are seriously expensive. UK or Irish stores fine (Im in NI).

    Any ideas?

There are a few backpacks on elara.

    http://elara.ie/products/noteacc.asp?1P2ID=314&ECatID1=6488013214&Desc1=Notebook+carrying+backpack

They're not great looking by any means but they're cheap enough.

I just received this today, and it is AMAZING!

You can custom design it (flap, strap, orientation) - it came to just over 60 euros delivered, and it is worth every penny. I was looking around a bit before and anything I've seen in the shops was either cheap looking or flimsy - but this sleeve is really thick, and has a really durable outer part - it's really gorgeous. A much higher quality than I've seen in any other shop (that wasn't rediculous money). Even the strap is lovely - the clips are black metal, nothing plastic, and nothing finnecky .... if you're not sure what size to get, give them the laptop make and model and they will suggest one for you (it's what I did, and I swear the bag was made to measure)

Their service is great too - honestly, I read all the reviews before and now I agree with everyone of them :)

Is that just a sleeve? If so I wouldn't pay anywhere near €60 for a sleeve.

Its not really - it's much thicker than any sleeve I've seen before, but not as bulky as a bag. I intend to use mine as a bag as with the strap, it will provide as much protection as I need. If you intend to just carry it around in your rucksack, you can not order the strap/flap or hooks, and you'll just have a bare bones, yet durable sleeve. It'd be a lot cheaper that way. (actually 40 euro including delivery ....)

I've seen some 30-40 euro sleeves in the laptop shop for example, and I don't think this is in the same league to be honest.

This is actually what I ordered: http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleevecases/images/prod_sleevecase_detail_7.jpg

€60 is terrible for a sleeve.

i got a Jansport backpack in the bagshop. It cost €70 euro but worth every penny. The padding is great with good sperate compartment for laptop. Looks like a normal backpack which is good because some of them out there look very boxy me thinks. I use it for college and i hold my laptop and my books for the day with no problem.

Also the straps are the best about in terms of distibuting the load of the laptop and there is the standrd 30 year guarantee for the bag.

Much better protection than a sleeve, and walking around with that over your shoulder is just screaming "ive got a laptop, a nice one, anyone want to mug me for it, its right here, easy pickings"

I have to agree with Chris. I have a hp backpack that is great. It cost me €70 but it was worth it. It's not that big but it's holds loads when I need it to.

I have this and i find it perfect for my 12inch acer

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/North-Face-Recon-backpack-laptop-schoolbag-rucksack_W0QQitemZ260219489770QQihZ016QQcategoryZ31521QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Loads of room for other stuff aswell

Ive fitted a 14inch compaq in aswell so it would hold your macbook fine

I saw one of them bags alright, which one did you get? Also, is it big enough to hold both a laptop & college gear? (folders and stuff)

I keep on meaning to go in and have a look, but whenever i am in town i never have my laptop (cos i don't go straight from college)

You could also look in some of the skater shops, as I know one of my work colleagues used to work for one of the larger skater distribution companies and they do backpacks with laptop compartments. Might be cheaper than looking in computer shops.

i think you should go with a backpack though a lot harder for anto and deco to rob, with the over your shoulder type backs you may as well paint i have something worth robbing on your head.

Picked up a crumpler (the "cheesy disco") from the laptop shop today. Rather uninterested staff, but the price was €135 (online price less shiping was €130). And there's a seperate sleeve included, so it seemed like decent value. And if the laptop costs a grand or so, 10% of that for a decent bag (strong, waterproof, lifetime guarantee, easy to wear, well designed, etc.), well it seems like cheap insurance to me!
