Turning a Springer into a AEG, Is it possible?

:pac: For those of the technical persuasion ;) I was just wondering the feasibility of turning a springer SVD Dragnov (the better looking 1 with the full length barrel) into a AEG version using parts from one of the cheap AK clones + some of the better upgrade kits.

I won't lie, I know toffee about the internals of a Springer & AEG, I'm kinda hoping once you open up the "shell" they'd be roughly the same size & dimensions inside allowing to do a transplant or am I just barking up the wrong tree?

funny you should mention this cause i was thinking of doing something similar but i want to get a springer and put a pistol inside it. Because this rifle actually takes pistol mags in real life. To make things easy i'm going to use an AEP.

there's no quick answer to this, with a bit of work it may very well be possible, but you'd have to open it up and see if the gearbox would fit and if you could get it lined up properly, you'd also have to make sure you'd be able to fit the motor in the grip and have somewhere to put a battery

Crave, if you mean AEP as in Mp7 gearbox, then ok. If you mean like the glocks/USPs they have really bad ROF and power output. Doubt it would work very well.

crave, id say you could easily do that with an AEP gearbox, it would be a bit trickier with an AEG one though., problem with the AEP one is theres nowhere near enough power in them to be used as a rifle.,

Yeah thats my main concern with this idea....
Friend / Colleague / Well Wisher "So you managed to ruin a perfectly good SVD Dragunov gun then?"

Me "Nope two perfectly good guns wah!" hehe :D

considering that you would have the same quality/rof/fps etc as the clone donor gun, would it not be more feasable to swap the grip/barrel/stock of the springer onto the clone rather then the internals of the clone into the body of the springer?

He has an AEP glock, so he may think the ROF is fine. Alot of people who want to make completly custom AEGs start off with an AEP as a base. Like the guy who made the Kriss. Can't a link now, but it's out there.

I'm also thinking of cost, aep is mucher cheaper, cyma 18c clone 40euro. The other thing is .... I just wanna make a semi and full auto from Battle Star Galactica!!!!!! Wow I'm a big nerd! It doesn't have to be skirmishable. also as i think i mention above, the Cx4 takes pistol mags as is, it's basically a glorified pistol, so using an aep would be true to form!

I came across a website ages ago where someone converted a FAMAS into a GBB by putting either a GBB pistol or GBB sub where the AEG gearbox went.

Really have to search for that again. Was pretty cool.

might also be worth mentioning that an AEP doesnt have a regular sized mag, the gearbox is in the grip on the AEPs and they have a skinny little mag to make room for it.,

Smaller mags mean more room in your vest, for more mags!

the mags arnt the problem, its mounting the gearbox inside the new handgrip so its high enough to align with the barrel yet still easy enough to fit the mag in too,..,that could get messy,.

i'll have to see when i get the donor, but maybe i could use the glock grip and make a hybrid thing with the strom body, dunno yet!
