Ehh, isn't it "més que un club"/"mas que un club" !?
    I don't think "che" is a word in spanish/catalan...

Yes, you're dead right. well spotted. I was running out.

In Catala': mes que un club
In Italian: piu' che un club

    Mi sono confuso con l'Italiano!

    :D

    Regarding Vieira.

Barca diehard I see. I'm only a Barca admirer and I know that quote is wrong.

Sorry sometimes when one speaks more than one language one can easily mix up things.

I support la Vecchia Signora in Italy and Barca in Catalunya.

Of course i know what Mes que un Club is all about. I mixed up my Catalan and Italian while rushing. Let me know if you want italian lessons. Mamma mia sei un po' pignolo! My Catalan is not near as good as my italian though. Ciao!

Inter are poor. I don't care what you say, in the real world they are poor. Leaders of Serie A. So what? That league has been in decline for five years and is at least ten behind the top in Europe. They are on the downside of the cycle. We must stop referring to their clubs as "giants" and stop overestimating their prowess. Serie A is third or fourth rate in Europe now - about parity with France I would say. Give a few more years for the remaining superstars to age and retire and no-one will be talking about them. Seriously, Inter are not great. I also expect Everton to win tonight.

Sorry? Serie A in decline for the last five years? On a par with French league? Well, you were wrong about Everton tonight maybe you're wrong about the rest of your absurd observations.

Everton did win tonight. 2-0 if I'm not mistaken.

technically, yes Everton did win during the 90 minutes but cool and calculated Fiorentina penos and a great save from Frey.

Please tell me noone is trying to base the strength of a nations league on one penalty shootout..?

I really think its hard to argue that the Italian league hasn't diminished from its former glory in recent years relative to the English league.

Even just looking at the top teams, taking them as ambassadors for the league. The best Italian team of all time historically, Juve, was decimated after the dodgey dealings and they're only in a state of rebuilding now. AC are quite clearly in a state of transition with only a few players in their prime and only one or two of these being top notch The rest are either promising starlets or getting on in years. Roma we saw fail to challenge Man U over the past 2 years. Very decent team alright, with a few very classy players, but they're just short of being very good. That leaves Inter. Quite functional team, consistent and great in the league but consistently fail on the big stage. People can say what they like bout the 10 man thing, they offered little at any point over 180minutes.

Im not sure thats its as bleak as pundits were saying, but something does need to be done to re-energise that league. Maybe if it became less 'ultra' orientated and became a more attractive option for the regular joe, or even families they might recapture the crowds. It just always such a hostile match going experience. At the top level, I couldn't see Milan Juve or Inter ever really dropping down a level for too long, they all have too much money and are still very attractive clubs for players to come to.

How do you "technically" win 2-0? They won 2-0 , no technically.

Ahh the usual Liverpool match thread tailoff :)

I can't remember the stats, but I think of the last 5 years semin finalists in the CL, 7 hail from England, 6 from Italy, 4 from Spain, and one each France, Holland and Portugal, with AC Milan being the most consistent performer in those 5 years (2 wins, 1 runner up etc.)

Nice of you to bring the tie into it now that you have been found out for talking carp once again. The bookies paid out on an everton win, I know, I had them and spurs in a double.

Look mate. How about you stop trying so hard to prove that you more intelligent than the rest of us and just shut up when you have been proven to be wrong. If you don't fancy shutting up, just admit that you are wrong and move on.

For one that likes to appear so smart you are not the most worldly wise are you ? I collected that bet, both teams won, so what do I gather from this most recent exchange.

    1. You know nothing about football betting.
    2. You like to see other people lose their money and gloat about it later.
    3. You like to pretend to be smarter than you actually are.

Oh well, we all have different things to contribute, when we find out what yours is I imagine you will be a valued contributor on this forum.

    1. I am fiercely proud to eschew betting on anything. It is a scourge on these islands and a social malaise akin to alcohol abuse and drug taking.
    2. I would prefer if people spent their money on more noble things.
    3. All I know is that I know nothing.
