Docklands Fun Run Vs Mini Marathon

I'm trying to decide on a fun event to go to with my friends. I heard last year that the mini marathon was a bit commercial and a bit big. Is this true?

The Docklands Fun Run seems like a better alternative - Does anybody know more about this event?

Haven't done either but the mini-marathon is one of the biggest women only sports events in the world. They got nearly six thousand last year. If you don't like crowds then the docklands run might be better.

Docklands does start late though circa 8PM.

Depends on what you're looking for really. The Mini Marathon is huge (40,836 took part last year) but is very well organised. Should be even better this year with separate starting pens for elite runners, runners under 60mins, fast joggers under 80mins, joggers and walkers. Because of the huge crowds you'll find more support on the route and more of a festival atmosphere. The Docklands is more low key and chilled out.

Another difference is the distance - 10km in the Mini Marathon and 8km in the Docklands. Of course the Mini Marathon is women only so your group of friends is mixed it may not suit.

Why not do the Bupa 10k next month?

Best fun run in the country and doesn't use the M word to sell itself.

Id agree withg rovers runner - do the Great Ireland run (not sure its called Bupa anymore). Its a great day in the park.

Shouldn't it be the Quinn Insurance run?:)

I'm going to try both the park/great run and the docklands fun run. The mini-marathon is just too clostrophobic for me.

If there was only something else to do in June?

Well the first race in the Adidas series is a 5 mile race in the Park on July 12th - more info here.

The race calendar on runireland is a great source of information on upcoming events.
