looking for a part time course or night class in car mechanics. im big in to my cars but i dont feel confident changing brake pads/discs,bushings and general servicing. i dont want to pay people to do this stuff as i would enjoy doing it if i was confident i could do it properly

anyone know of any courses or similar?

There's a few listed on www.Nightcourses.com but alot of the info seems to be out of date as to when the courses actually start.

Would be interested in this also. Maybe a course during the summer either if anyone knows a good one?

Do you have a mechanic friend, ask him to give you a bit of practice.

2 or 3 years ago I did an evening course in Motor Vehicle Mechanicals & Maintenance in Ringsend Institute of Technology. Me and my friend were part of the class of 7 who did it, and it was about the only one running in Dublin due to lack of numbers. Went through the basics - Spark Plug Change, Oil Change, Brake change etc. All theory as no workshop for practical.

The teacher had an engine on a stand show where various bits went - a 997cc engine from a 1960's Ford Anglia, so obviously fuel injection wasn't covered  No mention of Diesel either.

Didn't really learn much from it that I didn't figure out for myself with a Haynes manual and a 1983 Toyota Starlet.

i was looking them up there on night courses and sent a mail. it sounds very basic and only in class rooms. i want some thing hands on.

    havent got any mechanic mates:mad:

there must be something and if not a mechanic should start something in his garage to nicely supplement his income

Would it be good to buy a cheap car, for around 600 euro, and a Haynes Repair manual, and teach yourself??

Afterwards, if ye haven't made a balls of the car, ye can sell it on.

That is what I was thinkin of doin.
