What's 90s fashion? Apart from the "rave" gear at the start of the decade I don't remember any specific look, besides a bit of 70s rehashing. There was a bit of an obsession with combats all right in 97/98 and there was the scruffy "grunge"/"indie" thing but those weren't actually "looks", the media just needed to label them.
The 90s wasn't anywhere near as visual a decade as the ones before it. Apparently this was kinda deliberate after the OTT tackiness of the 80s. That decade was so bad that there was an effort to keep things simpler and more understated in the 90s.

Levi 501s are so 90's looking. Green nike air max. Combtas. Exclipse/xworx jeans! East 17!

Doc Martens, a 90s essential, babydoll dresses, little plastic butterfly clips, flare jeans, flannel shirts, dungarees, thigh high stockings with mini skirts, and who could forget that union jack dress? :p

    I loooooove the 90's!

The 90's is fast becoming just as scary as the 80's.

I'm sure it will. It was generally better than the eighties and that's been back. Some of the tat mentioned was never stylish. It was worn by the same sort of people who wear Uggs, floncy printed dresses and black leggings nowadays.
Most people wore bootcut or straight jeans, retro trainers, nice if baggy shirts, and generally it harked back to the late sixties/early seventies. It was better than diamonte belts, baby pink t-shirts and hair with alot of "product".

i'm sorry, what? are you blind and deaf or are you stuck in a year 2001 time warp and not stepped into the highstreet for 5 years or something? the 90s has been so back for the last few years and its so mainstream that its getting tiresome at this stage. i can't figure out these people who start threads about the 90s these days, as if the comeback hasn't already come and almost gone, or like they've just figured it out when its been all over the media and culture for actual YEARS at this stage. i guess maybe the grunge and indie style/attitude hasn't totally resurfaced yet, but its on the way (see recent new york times et all articles about not washing your hair, media celebration of self-destructive drug addicts etc, and the way nearly everyone was citing grunge as an influence in their autumn/winter 2007/8 collections)

anyone who needs a refresher course on the last 2-3 years? here you go:

Correct me if i'm wrong Petek and i'm sure you will judging by the tone of the your post but hasn't it not been an 80's and not 90's thing over the past few years?

its been a psychedelic rave thing mostly, which is late 80's to mid 90s, and once one thing from a decade is back the rest follows pretty quickly. in any case the "do you think the [insert decade] fashion will ever come back??" question is pretty out of touch ad irrelevant - its all back. its more helpful to ask a question like "i love 90s raver soothers, who else thinks this is cool?"

I still have a pair of these, albeit Nike ones. Sure they're still made.

Perhaps it's all still too close but the only part of the 90's I can think of in a retro way is 90-92, i.e. the overlap with the 80's. Everything else seems too close.

I remember the coloured laces alright ha! And the spring laces that you didn't have to tie, ha! Levi jumpers and perms...and choker necklaces

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,807 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

    XworX jeans
    Bermuda shorts
Baggy flannel shirts (already coming back)
    Step haircuts / Undercuts
    Floppy Nick Carter fringes
    Dungarees
    Levis + Wrangler
    Nike Air Max 95 + 90
    Spandex

Some stuff still looks great though, all the NWA, West Coast early 90s rap clothes look class

Another thing, what age do you have to be to be a "90s kid". I've seen awful gob****es on Bebo born in 1996 who claim to be 90s kids?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 263 ✭✭Local Goddess

Haha, I don't know, maybe young enough to be still classed as a kid and be able to actually remember the 90's, not just what you hear people saying??

I remember the scousers in 1999.
OP, what is a soother - when you mention that I think you're talking about a baby's dummy!

Why not talk to some polish people? The blokes seem to be rockin the 90's bomber jackets and bright tracksuit pants all the time.

My comment is CLEARLY an observation.
