Alternative to the BMW 318i

I would seriously consider buying a BWM 318i for 3 reasons 1. Performance, 2. Rear Wheel Drive, 3. Style. Can anyone suggest an alternative car / manufacturer to the 318i but that would be comparable in each of the 3 categories

    Thanks!

    318 performance ;)

Hardly any RWD cars left. Merc 200 with compressor? (do kompressor models still exist?)

RWD only really leaves you with:
    BMW
    Merc (C180k / C200K)
    Lexus IS200 / IS 220d / IS 250

As far as small executive saloons go.

Hoping for a new car myself next yr, looked at the 318i and very impressed with the reviews alright.

At the moment the only other car I'm considering is the Audi A4 1.8T Quatro. Both similar prices for 2003 approx.

Is it a coupe, saloon or estate model your looking at?

I would have thought an a4 would do the job

If it doesent have to be rwd , consider the SAAB 9-3 as well

Go for the 318d or 320d, power wit fuel economy, what more could u want. Although u'll have to spend a few bob to get a nice bit of spec on them.
