Paypal f*** up

    Hi,

I was paying for an order via paypal, but my internet connection broke half way through.

The seller got the money, I lost the money, but the transaction didnt register with the seller's shop.

I asked paypal to cancel this money, as it was going to the seller for free, and only due to a break in my connection.

Paypal responded saying I had to contact the seller for a refund, wtf?

Am I at their discretion? How is this safer than sending cash in the post?

What should I do, because I dont want to be at the sellers mercy, if I am, I'm quitting paypal, an internet based service that cant handle problems associated with the internet, bad connections.

Is this for an ebay item? Mark the payment as sent in your My Ebay and send the seller email explaining what happened.

    Its an online store.

They accepted it wasn't an intentional payment, but a duplicate, as I had one instance where the transaction was a success, but didn't realize the failed one had been debited but didn't go through to the seller.

They call it a buyer authorized payment, even though I explained what happened.

They said I have to contact the seller and request a refund.

I have to agree with Paypal, get the seller to refund the money is the best option for everyone involved, could happen that you were actually buying twice the same item but paid in separate transactions, so what Paypal might think you were doing after seller shipped the items you are asking for a refund because a duplicate payment but they have no way to proof you are telling the truth

If the seller doesn't refund the payment you could open dispute or a charge back.

I've no real experience with paypal, so was unsure what my options were, I'll give it some time for the seller to respond, then try those suggestions.

Is there a way to contact paypal about this, to speed things along?

    Thanks.

An internet based financial company should be able to deal with a situation associated with the internet, a break in the connection, a little more immediately.

PayPal won't be able to do anything to get your money back from the seller in this case. Simply because you sent 2 payments to the seller - how do PayPal know that the 2 of them are not intentional?

Now I know that you had connection problems but PayPal servers aren't that advanced to be able to tell that you had connection problems at the time you made your payment.

And it's not possible for PayPal to take money from somebody else's account just because you ask them to either, your only option here is to contact the seller and explain the issue to him. Most seller's will have no problem refunding you.

Got a reply from the seller, they will handle the refund of the extra payment.

Paypal suggest sending them the link to the refund function, how do I find this url?

Not sure if there's a specific link but if they open the payment received I think they have the option to Refund payment, make sure they don't use "Send Payment" because you will need to pay for receiving the money.
