Talking one off the terrible performance today - how come there were seats in the Hill at the match?

I was sure International rugby matches didn't require them like soccer ones do and surely the IRFU would want to squeeze as many into the stadium as they could... I think you lose something like 4,000 places when the Hill is converted to all seating.

From what I can see they seemed to think it was too much hassle to remove them and then reinstate them for the soccer. Also, they said they sold tickets for the hill on a 'package basis', i.e. they'd already sold seated tickets. One wonders why on earth they did though!

The IRFU probably made as much from the seats as they can charge more for seating. Also there would be an extra bit of admin around the changing of the tickets (seating vs standing) for the 3 home matches. There was a Soccer International in between the 1st & 2nd 6Ns matches so the IRFU would have to have a different package for yesterday's match if they went with the Nally and Hill 16 standing.

It depends on how much they charge for the seats on the Hill, if it's more than €55 then they pretty much break even with the cost of the terrace at €30 and if they're charging €60 then they're making more, it is offset though by the cost of putting in the seats as well.

If there aren't major improvements on the pitch they'll have to give them away soon...
