Davy Research is predicting that average house prices will fall by a further 10% this year, with new houses bearing the brunt of the decrease.

However, it also predicting that homeowners can expect two reductions in interest rates before the year is out.

Elsewhere in its latest assessment, the company says it believes Ireland will significantly outperform the rest of Europe in terms of economic growth in the coming years.

It is warning, however, that declining competitiveness will hold back economic growth.
